Thomas's obituary
Thomas Michael Christy, 68, of Elgin, Texas, passed away April 27, 2024, after a long, hard fought illness.
Tom was born May 3, 1955 in Amarillo, Texas, to James William Christy and Cornelia “Connie” Chavez Christy. The Christy family moved to Austin in 1965 where Tom went on to attend David Crockett High School before enlisting in the US Air Force in 1972. While in the Air Force, Tom used his “Top Secret” clearance, protecting his country, working with the North American Aerospace Defense Command “NORAD.” Tom was very proud to be a veteran.
However, music was Tom’s one true passion. He dedicated his life to being the best musician possible. In 1997 he produced and released a CD consisting of his own original music entitled "Whirlwind Dance". Tom spent many years playing his music on the road and in various house bands throughout the country. He loved every second of it.
Hunter Thompson said it best: "Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming “Wow! What a Ride!"
Tom played his music, traveled, loved and lived for his whole life. He married the love of his life, Paula Page, in Santa Fe, NM in 2017. His witty sense of humor was still on full display up to the very end of his life. He had an amazing eye and love for beauty. He believed in living life to the fullest, which he did, on his own terms. Thanks for letting us ride along, Tom.
Tom is survived by his wife, Paula Page Christy, of Elgin, TX; parents, Jim and Connie Christy of Lubbock, Texas; brother, Don Christy and wife, Eri, of Las Vegas, NV; sister Linda Gallagher and husband Bret, of Lubbock, TX; sister, Maria Turnbull, of Lubbock, TX; along with a multitude of nephews, nieces and cousins.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
