Thomas's obituary
Thomas "Tom" Ivan Bartels was born on September 29th, 1951, in Shreveport, Louisiana. He passed on April 13th, 2023 in Coconut Creek, Florida.
Coming from a military family, Tom lived in many places but spent his teen years in Arvada, Colorado. After graduating high school, he proudly served his country in the United States Navy. For four years during the Vietnam War, Tom sailed on the USS McCaffery as an Electronics Technician and Combat Information Center Watchstander.
Upon leaving the Navy, Tom moved to Houston, Texas. It was here that he met the mother of his three children. Tom and his family relocated to Joplin, Missouri, where he began working as an aircraft mechanic at Mizzou Aviation. His exceptional skills in the mechanical side of planes eventually led him to a fulfilling career at the FAA in Kansas City, Missouri. For over two decades, Tom served as a Federal Aviation Safety Inspector, retiring in 2015.
Tom was a man of many skills. He was mechanically minded and could often be found working on a new project in the garage. He was a lover of music and the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, as well as spending time on the water.
Tom leaves behind his loving mother, Meredith O. Bartels, his sister, Jaymie Bartels, his brother, Donald Bartels, and his daughters, Becky Nasalroad and Michelle Blackton. He was preceded in death by his father, James I. Bartels, and his beloved daughter, Abby Bartels.
