T.J.'s obituary

We mournfully announce the passing of T.J. Atwood, who was born on September 16, 1942 and departed this life on April 28, 2024. T.J. was a remarkable man known for his wit, intellect, passion, and playful pranks.

T.J. was a graduate of Baylor University where he earned his B.A. in Chemistry in 1965.  He then went on to the University of Houston and earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 1969. He was an excellent and compassionate dentist who wore his profession as a badge of honor. His legacy is one of service, hard work, honesty, generosity, and compassion. Amongst his greatest accomplishments, T.J. proudly held the roles of a loving father and a devoted husband.

He is survived by his wife, Susie Atwood, whom he married in 1983; his step-daughter D.J. Vila; son, Clayton Atwood; son-in-law, Eric Vila; and grandchildren, Charlotte and Elliott Vila. T.J. was predeceased by his father, Kirby Atwood; mother, Clara May Atwood; and sister, Dorothy Nell Atwood Faltin.

T.J. was a passionate fan of the Baylor Bears and Dallas Cowboys. Never one to say no to adventure, TJ  enjoyed water skiing, ultra light gliding, motorcycle riding, hunting, fishing, and archery. He was also an avid gardener, bee keeper, cook, and farmer.

He was fond of imparting his wisdom, always reminding us to show humility in all that we do. T.J. will be remembered not just for his love for his family and friends, but also for his beloved furbabies: Ginger, Rigby, and Dazzle.

In T.J.'s memory, let us remind ourselves of his life's echoes — a legacy of service, hard work, honesty, generosity, and compassion. These values will live on as part of T.J.'s lasting legacy, serving as a beacon for all who knew him. He will be deeply missed.
