Theresa's obituary
Born in Grand Isle, Maine, and raised in East Hartford, Connecticut, she was the daughter of the late Lucien Soucy and Jeanne (Levesque) Soucy. She relocated to Enfield, Connecticut in 1992 and resided there for the remainder of her life.
She shared 39 years of marriage and 48 years together with her husband, David Smith, Sr., and together they devoted their lives to their family.
Theresa was a homemaker, mother, and devoted caregiver. She took great pride in her work as a nurse’s aide, caring for the elderly with compassion and dignity, and in maintaining a home defined by warmth and stability. She especially loved her dogs, including her beloved pug, Daisy.
She is survived by her daughter Kimberly Smith and her partner Micheal Bergeron of Bristol, Connecticut; step daughter Michele Arel and her husband Steven of Huntington, Massachusetts; and step son David Smith, Jr. and his wife Jennifer of Lancaster, Kentucky. She also leaves her grandchildren and granddogs.
She is survived by her sisters, Kathy LaPointe of South Windsor, Connecticut, and Omerine Marino and her husband Mike of Newington, Connecticut. She was predeceased by her brother, Roger Soucy.
She was warmly embraced by her husband’s extended family, including her mother-in-law, Pearl Smith; her father-in-law, Garnet Smith; Donna Smith; Dottie Smith and her partner Clint Charter; Paul and Sandy Smith; Brenda and Jim Houlberg; Jeannie and Ken Trudeau; Carl and Pamela Smith; Bill and Geri Smith; and Ken and Theresa Smith.
She is also remembered with love by many nieces and nephews on both sides of her extended family.
The family extends their sincere gratitude to the oncology team at Trinity Health in Enfield, especially Dr. Mehra and Nurse Amanda; to Trinity Health Hospice Care, especially Nurse Nancy; and to her husband, David, and daughter Kimberly, whose devoted care allowed her to spend her final days in the comfort of her home.

In lieu of flowers, raise a glass of white zinfandel and seltzer in Theresa’s memory, and don’t forget to hug the people you love — she never missed an opportunity to do the same.
