Background
My father Theodore was a veteran who served for 2 years in the 82nd airbourne division. He jumped out of airplanes doing what an airbourne does. He proudly spoke about being a veteran and how happy he was to serve for this country. Theodore Cowens was a great Strong loving devoted man. Not only was he a veteran but a father to 3 beautiful children Linda Cowens, Marlene Cowens, and Theodore Cowens , and 4 grandchildren Amanda, Mariah, Skyla, louelz a widow to my mother Maria Cowens who he took great care of till her passing days 3 years ago. He was married with my mom over 30+ years loved her very much. Instead of having her in a nursing home. He took it upon himself to care for her Bath her, feed her, my mother was dying from Parkinson and diabetes, neuropathy she was like a baby. My father did what any loyal loving husband would and stood by her side till she died in bed on Dec.16.2015 near him. Now 3 years later my father has passed from a severe heart attack. He had a defibrillator in which it saved his life 4 separate times but not on the night of 5/4/2019. He will be missed very much all I have is great memories of him from my childhood till now. Theodore Cowens was a family man. Worked hard for us to have a descent life. My father was expecting the VA to help him pay for his burial and spoke about never wanting to be cremated. He wasn't ok with the fact of being burned since we had to get my mom cremated we had no choice. I'm a single mother of 2 kids and one newborn with no money and my sister is a college student suffering just to make ends meet. We don't have Family to help us. My father was the only person we had after my mother’s passing. He suffered with heart disease ,high blood pressure and kidney failure, copd too. I tried to take care of him the best way I could. I was at peace for years thinking the VA would help us but sadly there stating they can't help us since he had a dishonorable discharge. Just because of a bar fight he didn't start. He was defending a young lady back then who were going through a domestic issue. Him having a big heart he tryed to protect that lady from getting beat up . I can't believe they wouldn't help us knowing the hardship my sister and I are going through. He still a vet and served he did many things for those two years. All those jumpings he did back in the army had him diagnosed with severe rheumatoid arthritis. His both knees .were so badly inflamed he would cry about pain all the time. I would have to help him to stand and move around. His medications he took barely relieved him from his pain he couldn’t fall asleep most nights. This is what happened because of him serving and he never regretted any of it. Once again Sadly they aren’t helping with nothing. I need your help any help to please bury my father and give him the proper burial he deserves. We don’t have money for an awake neither but are main goal is to get him a proper burial right away. I only have a little bit of time since he died in the state of CT the morgue doesn’t give us much time there like N.Y does. I’m begging anyone to please find in your heart to help my family but more for my dear father. I would like nothing else but to grant him his last wishe to not be cremated like my beloved mother was. I want to put my mother’s ashes with his burial so they can both be laid aside with eachother for ever in loving piece. Thank so much god bless
