Dad worked for Thrifty Drug Stores for over 33 years. He thrived on helping people and excellence in customer service. Toward the end of his career he trained other store manager, and also became a District Manager with his superior service. (Need to say we ate a lot of Thrifty ice cream growing up!)
Young Dad used to be quite the rebel, owning a motorcycle. Later he and mom did a lot of archery torment's . Later back camping , especially doing 50 miles hikes in the Marble Mountains in California. Our family did a lot of camping, with campers, tents and occasionally the family cabin and , also enjoying time with our cousins.
Dad loved creating things! He made bicycles ( even a tandem) worked on Coo-Coo Clocks and regulator clocks also. Mom and he where avid gardeners with raised beds, and multiple fruit trees. He loved recycling wood, and made us all many items: booksheves, trunks, quilt hangers, dressers, jewelry boxes, shelves and toys for the grand kids. He also really got into making guitars and mandolins . He made two very special guitars with his son Lewis, and youngest Rachel. They are treasured keepsakes.
He enjoyed going to College of the Redwoods when they lived in Fortuna. He took a welding class and made a stove for the kitchen. He also loved to paint (as he used to in younger days) so he took classes and had several showings. Later when they moved to Tiller (20 Years ago) from Fortuna he kept painting with local groups and we have all enjoyed having his artwork in our homes.
Dad has a sarcastic dry humor, loved to tell a store and interact with anyone. He never me a stranger he didn't like.
He will be missed, especially his sparkling blue eyes and smile.
