Background
Terry Doornek passed away peacefully on June 25, 2024, at the age of 66.
She is survived by her husband, Tom Doornek; her two children, Adam and Amie; and her cherished grandson, Finnley, who brought immense joy to her life.
After the tragic loss of her first husband, Robert Moorhead, Terry reconnected with a high school friend, Tom, in Woodward, Oklahoma. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with love, adventure, and mutual devotion. Terry considered Tom's family her own, forging meaningful bonds with them.
She deeply loved her siblings and maintained a close relationship with them throughout her life. They were a constant source of support and love for her.
Terry was a devoted mother who volunteered and sacrificed to ensure that Adam and Amie had the very best childhood. She was deeply involved in her children's schools and hobbies, always present to support and encourage them.
Terry spent many years serving as a dedicated nurse in California before her well-earned retirement. Her career was a testament to her caring personality.
An avid fan of the Dodgers, Terry also loved spending time at the beach and enjoyed vacationing with Tom at their favorite tree house in Arkansas. She cherished spending time with their beloved next-door neighbors and traveling to visit family and friends. Terry's love for seafood, her passion for the show "Murder, She Wrote," and Hallmark movies, and her adoration for her dogs were well-known to those who loved her. She will be remembered for her sharp wit, kindness, tenacity, generous heart, and her love for her family. Above all, she cherished her role as a grandmother to Finnley, proudly sharing stories and milestones of his life.
Despite facing health challenges over the past few years, including multiple hospital stays and surgeries, Terry's spirit remained unbroken. Throughout her health struggles, Tom was an unwavering source of love and care. Together, they faced each challenge and believed that there would be many years ahead of them full of adventures and memory-making.
In April, while recovering from surgery, her overall health took a quick and drastic turn. She was hospitalized one final time in June. Tom fought to bring her home at the end, which had been her wish all along. She was lovingly placed on hospice and passed away peacefully one day later. Tom was by her side, and she was surrounded by her dogs, exactly as she wished.
This is a heartbreaking loss for her friends and family. Unfortunately along with the heartbreak there has been a significant financial impact. Along with years of medical bills and end of life costs, Tom's income has been significantly reduced.
In honor of Terry's memory and to assist Tom during this difficult time, a memorial fund has been established. While Tom would never ask for help, we believe he deserves to feel the support of everyone who loved Terry and loves him.
Terry's life was a testament to love, resilience, and kindness. Her beautiful smile will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her legacy will live on in the hearts of those she touched. She is preceded in death by her mother, Esther Bird Kuhnen, and her father, George Wilson Crowell.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the generous donations and for the outpouring of love. There aren’t enough words to convey how much it means to us. Contribute
