TW's obituary

Terrell Wayne, “T.W.” Jackson, 74, passed away peacefully, in the arms of loved ones, on November 18, 2023.

Terrell had many nicknames, including Terry Wayne, Terry, and T-Beaux, but he signed his artwork “T.W. Jackson” and often introduced himself, with a grin, as “T.W., like Train Wreck.”

T.W. was an immensely creative, charismatic, imaginative, hilarious, and sincere human. He had a bright rebellious streak that encouraged him to probe the big questions about life, society, religion and art. Throughout his life, he studied and discussed art, theology, philosophy, and mythology of different cultures, with a particular interest in Native American, indigenous Celtic, and Japanese imagery, stories, and lore.

He cracked jokes incessantly, laughed easily, dreamed big, sang loud, made friends quickly, and accepted people from many different walks of life with curiosity and compassion.

In his life, T.W. created hundreds of artworks in diverse mediums, from drawing to painting to graphic design, photography, sculpture, jewelry making and metalsmithing. His willingness to play and experiment marked the timbre of his art, but it was his bright rebellious streak combined with a tender exploration of the eternal that made his work exceptional.

T.W. was also an avid musician who wrote songs, sang, and played guitar and bass with a band of friends called The Lunatic Fringe (or Lunatic Gospel Fringe, depending on the circumstances), a moniker he chose for them.

His other interests included baseball (he was scouted to play on the minor league Cardinals team, but suffered a knee injury before he could start the season), volleyball, boxing, and pretty much any other sport, the western United States, cowboys, cowboy stories, and cowboy boots, the American desert, movies (especially westerns), guitars, motorcycles, and survival skills.

He also loved cows–often including their likeness in his art–horses, and dogs, especially his beloved pets: Butch, Lavatrius Desideria, Chelsea, Blondie, Gizmo, and Koko Bebop Chanel no. 5. He was also fond of cats.

Above all, he adored his three daughters and believed they were the strongest women he had ever met.

T.W. is survived by his beloved daughters Allanah Maarteen Jackson, Haydyn Marina Jackson, and Marquesa Feliz Jackson, his grandchildren Isla Evangeline Renae Zepeda, Grenfall Clayton Jackson Honey, and Ellis Renae Zepeda, son-in-Law Cody Grenfall Honey, ex-wife Charleen Lynette Watson and her surviving family, members of the Graham family, as well as his Aunt Claudia Davis and the extended Jackson family which numbers 224 with 3 babies on the way.

He was preceded in death by his dear mother Mattie Lee Graham Jackson, the storyteller of the family, and his father, Captain Terrell “Ted” Jackson, Jr.

His memory also carries on through numerous friends, neighbors, students, and colleagues from across Texas, including members of St. Christopher Episcopal Church in League City, San Jacinto College in Houston, Clear Lake High School in Clear Lake, Rock Steady Boxing Gym in New Braunfels, St. Francis by the Lake in Canyon Lake, and the Lone Star Parkinson’s Society in New Braunfels.

T.W. made art with his daughters even through his last weeks of life, and his creative influence, love of music, and brave, sincere heart remained alive and well through the very end. Perhaps now, his spirit dances freely in the aether for us all to call upon when we need it. May it be so.
