Teri's obituary
Born in California in 1955, Teresa grew up in Elma, Washington, where, between her parents and step-parents (Shirley and Lloyd Evans of Elma and Robert and Doranne Heywood of Anaheim), she was the oldest of 8 children. Teresa began dating her future husband, Tracy Moore, in 1971. They dated throughout high school and were married in July 1974 following Teresa's high school graduation.
Teresa assumed a care-taking role at an early age by helping to raise her younger siblings. Following high school, Teresa attended Grays Harbor Community College to become a Licensed Practical Nurse LPN). When Tracy and Teresa moved to Alaska in 1976, Teresa worked as an LPN at the hospitals in Ketchikan, Fairbanks, and Juneau. They raised three daughters (Jessica, Kristine, and Nicole) in Juneau, all of whom graduated from Juneau Douglas HS. While in Juneau, Teresa, Tracy, and their girls were members of Glacier Valley Baptist Church.
In 1993, Teresa graduated from University of Alaska Southeast with a degree in Early Childhood Education. She then taught in the Juneau School District until 2005 and later returned to teach in the North Slope School District, at Point Hope, Alaska, in 2015-2016, after which time she permanently retired from teaching. Her students and principals adored her, and she loved working with children. Her five (5) grandchildren were blessed to have had a dedicated teacher for a grandmother, as she engaged them in fun activities which were also subtly educational. She loved reading to and with her grandchildren, and her family will continue to enjoy her collection of books.
Teresa and Tracy lived in Ketchikan, Fairbanks, Juneau, Point Hope, and Hollis. Tracy and Teresa built a vacation home in Chewelah, Washington, in 2006, following Tracy's retirement from the Alaska Department of Transportation. They also moved their family home to Hollis, Alaska, on property they purchased through the state land lottery in 1980. Following Teresa's retirement from teaching, they traveled extensively, including spending several winters in Palm Springs to escape the cold and snow. While Teresa enjoyed traveling, she was most happy spending time with her close friends, family, and beloved grandchildren. Teresa's children and grandchildren moved to Chewelah, Washington, to be near family and are so very grateful to have been able to spend time with Teresa and support her through her cancer treatment.
Teresa is survived by her husband, Tracy, and their children and grandchildren (daughter Jessica, grandson Max, grandson Marshall; daughter Kristine, granddaughter Miriam, grandson Corban; daughter Nicole, grandson Isaiah), as well as all of Teresa's siblings: Cheryl (Heywood) Sharpe, Steve Heywood, Robert Evans, Vicky (Evans) Beesley, and Lisa Evans Walls, all of Western Washington, and Richard Roberge and DR Heywood of Orange County, California.
