Teresa's obituary

Teresa Colson Hammond, 61, of Panama City, Florida, passed away on January 11, 2026. Born on January 21, 1964, in the United States, Teresa lived a life defined by love, kindness, and selflessness.

Teresa was a devoted mother to her children, Andrew “Travis” Hammond and Spencer Walker (Brandon), and a proud “Gigi” to her beloved grandchildren—Jaden, Mason, Ellie, Audrina, and Emma. She cherished her role as a mother-in-law and grandmother, pouring her heart into nurturing and supporting her family. Her grandchildren lovingly referred to her as Gigi, a title that extended beyond her immediate family to include many of Spencer’s friends who also felt the warmth of her care. Teresa’s loving friendship with Tom Brim was another source of joy in her life.

She was preceded in death by her precious son, James Curtis Hammond; her father, Donald Colson; her mother, Betty Louise Ambrose; her brother, Mark; and her step-sister, Paula. While their absence left an indelible mark on Teresa’s life, she carried their memories with grace and strength.

Teresa dedicated nearly 30 years of her life to nursing, with much of that time spent specializing in wound care and behavioral health. Her career was a testament to her compassionate nature and unwavering commitment to helping others. In 2018, after Hurricane Michael devastated the region, Teresa saw this as a sign from God to retire and focus on her health. Diagnosed with Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency (AATD) in 2012, she faced significant health challenges as the condition progressed. Despite losing lung capacity and becoming immunocompromised, Teresa remained resilient and continued to care for others in every way she could. Even in retirement, she was always ready to lend a listening ear or provide comfort to those in need.

Teresa’s giving spirit knew no bounds. She never wanted anyone to go without if she could help it. Whether it was doctoring “boo-boos” for her grandchildren or ensuring everyone had their Flonase during allergy season, she embodied the essence of caregiving until the very end. Her home was a haven of love and support for all who entered.

Beyond her professional achievements and caregiving roles, Teresa found immense joy in creating lasting memories with her family. She shared special moments with each of her grandchildren: teaching Mason how to give “gentle hugs,” collaborating on a cookbook with Ellie as they explored new foods together, painting rocks and feeding ducks with Jaden—their bond unbreakable since his birth—and fostering creativity and curiosity in Audrina and Emma.

Her children are confident that Teresa has been reunited with her son Little Curtis at Heaven’s gates. While their hearts ache for her presence here on earth, they take solace in knowing that she is now at peace and joyfully reunited with him.

A celebration of Teresa’s life will be held at a later date when her children feel ready to honor her memory in the way she deserves.

Teresa Colson Hammond was so much more than words can capture—she was a loving mother, a devoted Gigi, a cherished friend, and a beacon of kindness for all who knew her. Her legacy lives on through the countless lives she touched. May her memory bring comfort to those who loved her deeply.
