Background
Teresa's death was sudden, and as a lifelong SSI recipient due to disability she barely survived on the income she had and any dream of some type savings was just that- a dream. This combined with the fact that all of her surviving children are struggling to collect the funds we need to pay for the processing of her remains means we are asking for help during this time of grief, shock, and transition for our family. This financial burden is beyond what we can carry alone. “Many hands make light work”
Anything donated will be used to offset the mortuary fees, which currently stands just below $3,000 for a simple and direct cremation with no public viewing, no embalming, no coffin for cremation, and no urn. The rebate available through SSI, while appreciated, is minimal ($255) and only available with an official death certificate and a receipt of payment to the mortuary. The mortuary will not process my mother’s body or provide us with her remains until their fees are paid in full. Any funds beyond this will be used to provide Teresa with a celebration of life as well as a modest headstone. Any donations beyond this goal will be used to make sure her youngest son, Forrest Clark, is financially secure until he can find a new job as he was her IHSS worker and has now lost both his mother as well as his livelihood.
