Teresa's obituary
Teresa Michelle Butler (Hartley), 58, passed away peacefully at the home of her big brother, Steve Hartley, surrounded by her loving family after a difficult battle with ovarian cancer.
Teresa was born on February 22, 1965, in Nashville, TN to Joseph Wayne Hartley and Shirley Violet Martin. She was a descendent of Timothy Demonbreun, known as the "first citizen" of Nashville, TN.
She loved puzzles, dogs, and the smell of lavender. She took great joy and appreciation for the small things. Teresa enjoyed books and instilled a love of reading in her daughter, Elisha, from a very young age. After she finished a new one she would often mail it right off to her daughter or swap with friends. Many can attest that Teresa was the friend or family member who always sent a hand written card for every occasion, an attribute rarely seen now.
Teresa was also a dedicated and loving mother. She raised her daughter independently for years, always putting her child first. She set a tremendous example of perseverance and independence for her daughter. She also later went on to love and mentor several bonus children in her life.
She loved to travel, many times by motorcycle with her husband, Jim, as they enjoyed visiting our nation’s National Parks. She lived in multiple states across the country and made the most of her time exploring each new area she moved to with her husband.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, James (Jim) Butler, her daughter Elisha Danielle Meier (Michael), and her bonus children; Noah Butler, Albert J. Casner (Faith), Kacey Butler, Jason Butler (Charolette), Brandon Butler (Stephanie), Nicole Ministerman (Chris), and Kelly Kesselring (Steven). Her brothers, Stephen W. Hartley (Patricia) and Thomas G. "Tommy" Hatcher (Cynthia) along with her grandchildren, nephews, niece, and many other family and friends.
It was Teresa's wish to be cremated. A celebration of life will be held for her on Friday September 1st at Kingwood Church of Christ in Murfreesboro.
