Ted's obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ted Victor Olsen, aged 71, who passed away in his sleep on July 8, 2024 in Evanston, Wyoming.
Born on October 30, 1952, in Ogden, Utah, Ted Victor Olsen was the son of Fern and Victor R. Olsen. He grew up in Ogden, Utah and attended Ben Lomond High School. Ted would often mention that he grew up in the same neighborhood that the famous classic movie The Sandlot was filmed. He attended a few semesters of college before working at the Smiths Warehouse for several years. Ted would go on to work several other jobs throughout the years from retail to caregiving. One of his favorite adventures was to work in Yellowstone national park during the season. Eventually Ted found great joy in buying and selling goods online.
Ted’s love of his children led him to live in many places throughout his life. It was always important to him that he remained nearby. He lived in Ogden and Salt Lake City, Utah valley, Evanston, Wyoming, Medford, Oregon, surrounding areas of Portland, Oregon, and back to Evanston, Wyoming. Home was truly where his heart was, and his heart was always with his loved ones.
He loved camping and living a simple life without the need for societal norms or comforts. Ted was an avid reader, and a lover of music. He would often talk about the music of his youth, such as seeing The Beatles rise to fame as well as other British invasion bands such as The Animals. He even spoke of seeing Jimi Hendrix at Lagoon in Farmington, Utah and how the entire crowd was literally blown back by the sonic voracity of sound emitted the second Hendrix hit the first note. Ted was a lover of all animals, and the animals loved him. He also possessed a scholar-like knowledge of history and theistic mythologies. Ted had a special affinity for the teachings of Joseph Campbell, Egyptian mythology, and especially the old west outlaws and gunslingers. Many of us thought he should have been a history teacher as he would often correct the experts while watching historical documentaries.
Preceding his passing, Ted enjoyed thrifting and reselling unique items on his Oldie Olsen's EBAY site, as it would consistently bring him in contact with history and the nostalgia of his youth. Ted loved spending time with his grandchildren and would always be on the lookout for neat little gifts for them while thrifting.
Ted is survived by sister Jean Hill of Eden, Utah; his children Steven and Danielle (daughter-in-law) Olsen of Bear River, Wyoming, Stacie Olsen of Spokane, Washington and Tiffanie Olsen of Evanston, Wyoming; Step-son: Jason Baker of Butte, Montana; grandchildren: Draven Olsen, Victor Olsen, Lilly Olsen, Austin Hofeling, Sydney Hofeling; and his ex-wife Gloria Baker of Bear River, Wyoming. He was preceded in death by his parents Fern and Victor R. Olsen, brother Wayne Olsen, brother-in-law Ray Hill, and ex-wife Claudia Smart.
