John, I am so sorry to hear of Ted's passing and my thoughts and sympathies are with you at this moment. I have many wonderful memories of Ted, and even though we lost contact over the last few years he was never far from my thoughts. I remember Ted as one of the funniest, kindest, most wonderful people I have had the fortune to know. His spirit was genuine and he always gave so much. He possessed a bottomless capacity for empathy which made him such a fantastic friend and colleague. I now work in Community Colleges once again, and share with people I work with that I have tried to adopt qualities from previous supervisors. The truth is though, there is really only one person I think of when I ask myself what type of professional I aspire to be, and that is Ted. I will miss him, as I know so many will, but I also know I will forever hold onto beautiful memories of friendship and laughter during the time we knew each other, and I will do my best to pass on the lessons I learned from him.

When not one but two broken forearms will get you twice as much empathy!!!

John I’m so sorry for your loss. I knew Ted when he was in graduate school at Fairfield University. We became fast friends and I introduced him to New England and snow! We lost touch but reconnected a few years ago. He was a wonderful man with an amazing spirit. May he rest in peace. ❤️

John, I have so many wonderful memories of Ted, most of them hilarious. I always enjoyed lunch with Ted and the gang. We laughed a lot! Solved many medical issues and some of the world’s big problems along the way. I loved when Ted was aghast about your Ph.D. outfit, I tried to convince him you would get plenty of use out of it. All along knowing he was so proud of you and wouldn’t deny you the beautiful velvety gown (or dress as he would call it)! I’ll never ever forget the time we were driving back from a conference and Ted pulled his legs up underneath him sitting cross legged in the front seat of my car and he dropped into his daily meditation. Only Ted! How he loved you John, it was a joy to have bred a small part of your lives. Just know I’m hugging you for an uncomfortably long time and wish I could carry some of your pain for you. Much love, Edie

About 14 years ago, I started working at Clark on a student success grant. I was so disappointed that Clark was a community college, not a four-year institution.
Ted, you were one of the first people I met, and one of the reasons my opinion changed. You were consistently patient with a much younger me and managed to wrangle my monologues back to something meaningful. I know I told you this when you left Clark, but I have to say it again.
Thank you for your humor, your wisdom, and your humanity. I am a better person for having known you.

There’s a lovely sunset in Brooklyn tonight that I’m watching while sipping from coupe glasses Ted helped me picked out and enjoying a pine candle he gifted me. It feels like his memory is already a warm and loving blessing, just the kind of person he was. I am honored I got to be his friend these last few years. All my love, Meg

Ted rarely called me by my name. It was always, "How are you, my friend?" He had an innate gift for making those around him feel welcomed, appreciated and special. He was a rare individual that brought light wherever he went, and made you feel better just by interacting. Thinking about Ted makes me smile. His humor, warmth, storytelling and caring will be missed.

Dear John,
My most sincere and deepest condolences. The loss of a loved one is never easy, but I hope for you that the memories you made together ease the pain of Ted's passing in the coming days and weeks. I'm keeping you in my thoughts.
Kindest Regards,
Bill Fishburn
