Tak's obituary
It is with much sorrow that we inform you of the passing of Prof. Tak Hong Lee. He passed away peacefully in the early hours of 26th August, 2022, at Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital, with family at his bedside and knowing he was greatly loved.
Tak had a long and illustrious career in medicine across three continents, in Boston, London and Hong Kong. He was absolutely dedicated to his patients and furthering his field of expertise, leading to many groundbreaking discoveries through his research. It was of no surprise that this dedication led to a string of accolades, most notably when he was appointed CBE by Queen Elizabeth II in her Birthday Honours list in 2012 for his contributions to asthma and allergy research.
This same dedication also came to life in his unwavering loyalty and love for his family and friends, with a mischievous sense of humour frequently bubbling under the surface. In recent years he found great happiness in convening together the “Lee Clan”—as he called our immediate and extended family—for reunions where possible. His great hope was that we would all become closer, especially the younger generation, and to ensure a legacy of many more family reunions in years to come.
In the past week we have taken great comfort in the many messages of love and remembrance we’ve received from those who crossed paths with Tak. Some messages have been from longtime friends, others from people who connected only relatively briefly with him, but all had their lives meaningfully improved by knowing him. It is clear he is adored and respected by many, and will be much missed.
He was a remarkable father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, life partner, friend, doctor, scientist, teacher, and so much more.
A funeral service will be held in Hong Kong on the 13th September, 2022. Notes of condolence may also be forwarded to Tak’s son, Adrian (AdrianTLLee@gmail.com) and his daughter, Jackie (Jaxies.Lee@gmail.com)
With much love,
The Lee Family
