Sylvia's obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden and tragic passing of Sylvia P. Weidenbaker from a freak skydiving accident on May 11th, 2019.

She was 95.

Sylvia was born in Arkansas in 1924, and moved to California as a child, but she never lost her southern accent or hospitality. In Huntington Park, CA is where she raised her three girls, Judy, Gale, and Terri as a homemaker, along with her husband Bill. She was a wife, mother, grandmother, friend to all, and one hell of a good cook.

She enjoyed ballroom dancing, bungee jumping, teaching swimming lessons, rock climbing, traveling, safari trophy hunting (much to her physicians chagrin) and keeping active in her RV club.

She loved sweets, but would tell you that she didn’t, she loved her horrible dog Lucy, and she especially loved being near the water and the feel of a breeze.

Sylvia had an affinity for shopping channels, costume jewelry, and buying dolls that we’re going to have to find storage for.

She mothered everyone. Even if you didn’t want it or ask for it; by god you got it. The only people she ever disliked were those who were cruel to others, and a certain leader of the free world. She never had time for racism or homophobia, but she had plenty of time for playing cards with anyone at the dinner table.

In her later years, she was the quintessential old lady. She said inappropriate things instead of biting her tongue, criticized your outfits, and ran everyone over at least twice with her scooter.

It’s a strange and impossible thing to attempt to sum up an entire life in just a few paragraphs; so we’ll just say this - we will forever miss the old gal.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband, William “Bill” Weidenbaker, her son Edwin Charles who passed during his childhood, her parents Elijah and Dorothy Stinson, her son-in-law Frank Walther, all of her siblings, most of her friends, and that damn dog.

And with that, our final link to “the greatest generation” is gone. As per her wishes, she will be cremated and interred with her husband, at Riverside National Cemetery.

That shitty parachute will be destroyed at a later date.
