Suzanne's obituary
Suzanne Beth (Brodnix) Hoelscher
April 21, 1955 – December 21, 2024
Suzanne Beth (Brodnix) Hoelscher, 69, a devoted wife, mother, teacher, artist, adventurer, and accomplished ballerina passed away peacefully at home in Yuma, Arizona, on December 21, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by her loved ones. Born on April 21, 1955, to Charles and Miriam Brodnix, who preceded her in death, Suzanne spent her life leaving a positive impact on everyone she encountered and sharing her many talents with the world.
Suzanne was the loving wife of Michael Hoelscher, whom she married on February 11, 1983, in St. Marys, Ohio. Together, they built a life rich in love, family, and shared passions. Suzanne earned her business degree from Wright State University in 1977 and later graduated from Bluffton University in 1980 with a degree in early childhood education. She spent 11 years as a teacher, always striving to inspire her students and leave a lasting impression through her kindness and enthusiasm for learning.
An accomplished ballerina, Suzanne’s love for dance was a defining part of her early years, and she continued to appreciate the art throughout her life. Her grace and discipline from ballet carried into every aspect of her life, whether it was her teaching, her artistry, or her passion for historical reenactments.
A creative spirit with a heart for making a difference, Suzanne was the Owner and Designer of Creations for a Cure. Her artistic journey led her to become a master seamstress, an expert in 18th-century hat making, and a passionate historical reenactor. For over 20 years, Suzanne immersed herself in sharing her deep knowledge of historical reenactments, bringing history to life for countless people. She was also a published author on 18th and 19th-century jewelry and sewing techniques, combining her talents for research and craftsmanship with her patience and generosity in teaching others.
Suzanne had a remarkable ability to turn simple moments into cherished memories. She loved attending garage sales, craft shows, and historical reenactments, which sparked a shared love of history in her family. Her creativity extended to the kitchen, where she could transform whatever she had on hand into a meal that felt like a feast. Suzanne always found ways to make life joyful and adventurous, from packing coolers for family trips to the zoo or Pine Lake to hosting dinners filled with laughter.
Her home on Edwards Street in Ohio was more than a house—it was the heart of countless memories. From movie nights and family gatherings to children and grandchildren playing on the swing set she lovingly provided, Suzanne’s home radiated warmth, generosity, and love.
Suzanne’s adventurous spirit was evident throughout her life. She and Michael spent their final years as full-time RVers, exploring the beauty of the United States together. Whether cheering on the Ohio State Buckeyes, supporting the Buckeye Cruise for Cancer, or visiting historic sites, Suzanne embraced every experience with joy and curiosity.
Her legacy is carried on by her loving husband, Michael Hoelscher of Yuma, AZ, and her cherished children: Sergeant First Class Charles (Shay) Hoelscher of Columbus, OH; Ashleigh (Jamie) Stevens of Wapakoneta, OH; Luc Hoelscher of Minneapolis, MN; Wayne (Robin) Lutz of Uniopolis, OH; Megan (John) Alford of Stanford, VA; and Amie (Neal) Dykeman of Lamar, CO. She was also blessed with 18 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, who brought her immense pride and joy. Suzanne leaves behind countless friends, extended family, and the many lives she touched with her kindness, creativity, and love.
Whether she was helping without being asked, sharing laughter over small mishaps, or simply being present, Suzanne gave her time, love, and herself fully. Her life was marked by thoughtfulness, generosity, and an ability to make everyone feel special.
A celebration of Suzanne’s life will be held at a later date. In honor of her passion for helping others and her fight against cancer, the family requests that donations be made in Suzanne’s name to the Buckeye Cruise for Cancer, reflecting her love for this cause and her Ohio State Buckeyes.
“Not all those who wander are lost.” Suzanne embraced life as a beautiful journey, and her legacy reminds us all to do the same. She will be deeply missed, but her memory will live on in the hearts of those she loved and the many lives she enriched.
