She was born February 23, 1943, in Bryan, Texas. She moved to the Kansas City area as a young adult. She married Buddy Bennett on December 12, 1981, and they moved to Trenton, Missouri shortly afterwards. They spent several years there before moving to Higginsville, Missouri.
