Susie Lucille Dodson, resident of Chandler Arizona, formerly of Escondido California, passed away on Monday January 29, 2024 at Banner Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona at the age of 88 years.

Susie was born on January 25, 1936 in Lillian, Alabama to Emil Louis Schurr and Olie Josephine (Price) Schurr. Susie grew up on a small farm in Lillian with her three brothers Henry, Alfred, and Sidney and one sister Emily. She attended High School in Foley, Alabama and worked at Stacy’s Drug store during that time.

She later moved to Escondido, California where she raised her two sons whom she loved dearly, Blane Dodson and Rene Dodson. She worked for many years as a waitress at the Quails Inn in San Marcos, California. She also owned a jewelry store, A Schurr Thing Jeweler in Escondido, California. She enjoyed creating jewelry pieces and fixing jewelry for her customers. Susie also loved to craft and completed many projects including quilts, hand towels, washcloths and more for her family.

Some of her other hobbies included photography and gardening. She would take her grandchildren to different places to photograph them. She grew the most delicious tomatoes and green beans and would spend the time to can them which her family got to enjoy. She also made the most amazing Strawberry jelly!

During her later years, Susie’s granddaughter Amber, moved in to help take care of her at her home in Escondido. She loved spending time with her and her pug, Mercy. More recently, she moved to Arizona where she lived with her other granddaughter Shelly and her husband Cory. They cared for her as well and made her feel right at home in their new home. She also enjoyed spending time with their dogs, Cha-Chi and Jax and all their friends.

Left to honor her memory are her Brother, Alfred (Karen) Schurr of Lillian, Alabama , Sister Emily Grantham of Bamberg, South Carolina , son Blane (Linda) Dodson of Crescent City, California, Grandsons Brad (Kaide) Dodson, Green River, Wyoming, Tim (Kate) Dodson, Santa Rosa, California, Granddaughters Kelli (Jon) Blue of Crescent City, Ca, Amber Dodson, Pipestone, Minnesota, Brittani (Dillon) Olson, Pipestone, Minnesota, Shelly (Cory) Zuganelis, Chandler, Arizona and Zachary Immel, Sarasota, Florida. She had eleven great grandchildren, Kaiden, Zane, Lucas, Levi, Ty, Cody, Ella, Gavin, Nicholas, Leah and Samantha and thirteen nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Emil and Olie Schurr, brothers Henry Schurr and Sydney Schurr, Son, Rene Dodson and grandson Brandon Dodson.

Susie was a very caring, loving, selfless and confident woman who her family loved and adored. She will be very missed. Blessed be her memory.
