Sue's obituary
Sue H. Shiver-Brown, 97, of Renton, WA, passed away on December 08, 2021 after a long and happy life. Sue was born on January 10, 1925 to Arlton Shiver and Bennie Lou Greathouse-Shiver in Troy, Alabama. In 1942, she met Grady P. Bray Sr., and they wed in 1943, going on to have three children, Grady P. Bray Jr, Charles A Bray and J. Mark Bray. When Sue had Grady Jr., she decided to dedicate her life to being a fantastic and wonderful mother and helping establish and run the family plumbing business. Sue excelled at propping up her siblings, nieces/nephews and grandchildren, supporting them through the many passions and difficulties of their lives. Whether that was supporting her siblings, children or extended family through life's up's and down's or lending a shoulder when times were tough, she made it her mission to improve the lives of others. In 1971 she divorced Grady Bray Sr. After she was divorced she married Charles D. Brown in 1972. Charles Brown and Sue decided to move to the Seattle area and eventually settled in Issaquah Washington. It was there that they helped found Issaquah Christian Church and were very active in their community.
Sue was passionate about reading the bible and displaying her beliefs on a daily basis. She held the steadfast belief that her life was about showing compassion to all who needed her in whatever way she could. She believed strongly in being of service to others, as she used to say "It's just what we do." When she wasn’t filling her home with incredible food, warmth and much love, she could be found in her home practicing her writing and drawing, rearranging furniture or out hiking on the various trails in Western Washington.
We will miss her greatly. Sue was predeceased by her parents and some of her siblings, Juanita Curtis, Jack Shiver and Bettie Jean Nesmith and her husbands Grady P. Bray Sr. and Charles D. Brown. She is survived by her siblings, Max Shiver, Martha Lyons and Bill Shiver and her children Grady Bray Jr, Charles Bray and J. Mark Bray and numerous grandchildren and nieces/nephews. There will be a memorial celebration at December 29, 2021 at Hamilton Crossroads Church of Christ in Brundidge, AL.
