I liked Sue very, very much. I enjoyed her cheerful demeanor and personality. I always appreciated her hard work and dediction. She was a gem.
I’m so sorry for your loss. We played shuffleboard to get in St Petersburg. Sue was are neighbor and are  friend. RIP my friend!!
Sue- I am so sorry that you have left us.  We have been friends and colleagues for forty years.  In our almost twenty years of working together I have never known anyone more dedicated to helping  students.  Whether in your capacity as coach, teacher or administrator you always saw things through the prism of "how will this help kids".  You did indeed help hundreds and hundreds of students through your kindness, smiles and laughter while always deflecting any credit to someone else.  All the adventures we had coupled with the constant laughter and fun will always be with me.  Whenever I thing of you  I know I will quietly smile.                    Terry Molon

I’ve known Sue since I was12 through my brother Mike and then we were all at John Jay. We played softball together and she spent a lot of time with all of the McDowells. She was such a sweet and fun person with a great smile and laugh. Way too soon to lose a great lady    RIP Sue!

So sorry to hear this news today, my thoughts are with Sue’s family.  Sue was such a force of nature….strong, smart, beautiful, loving, it was an honor to work with her in Dover.  She gave so much to the district and continues to give even now💕. I am so grateful to have known her and grateful for how she cared about our kids.  We will all miss her light.
Suzy-Q, the world is just a bit darker without your 100 watt smile. I loved working with and for you at Dover. I remember the sign you had in your office that read, “Hate is not a family value. Value all families.” You taught and led and lived with vision, heart, enthusiasm and acceptance. RIP, my friend. What a legacy you leave us. Florence
I’ve known Sue since kindergarten.  I’m so sorry to hear of her passing. It’s too soon. Love to the family.
I am shocked and saddened by the passing of Sue. She was my teacher at Ephrata High School in PA.  She taught me so many things about life.  Her passions were education and and her family, I blessed to be able to share both with her.  We became close friends after i graduated from high school. We shared so many adventures, canoing, hiking, camping, cross country skiing and loving the outdoors and dogs. Sincere Condolences to Sue's family. RIP Sue.
I am shocked and deeply saddened to hear of Sue's passing. She was such an enthusiastic advocate for our school, our educational and sports programs and especially for her students. It was an honor to have known Sue as a parent, a co-worker and as a friend. Her efforts, laughter and smile will not be forgotten. My sincere condolences to the Smith family and friends.

I am so sorry to say goodbye to Sue this way. She was a dynamic and thoughtful presence. I felt that my children had someone with their best interest in heart when she was the Principal of Dover High School

My heart goes out to her family and all those whose lives she touched.

So very sorry to hear of Sue’s passing. She will forever be the wonderful coach and principal she was born to be.  My condolences to her friends and family.
I deeply mourn the loss of Sue.  Sue has always been one of the kindest, most positive and most loving people I know.  She radiated love and interest for everyone she met.  Her passion for students and for excellence in education was always at the forefront of her thoughts.  We have had many animated conversations over the years (right up to the present) about how to make schools better for everyone (of course, we had all the answers!).  Sue's door was always open to anyone who needed her help, a pep talk, or a sounding board.  Her passion was a force and an inspiration to her colleagues.  Whenever Sue had an idea that would take an enormous amount of time and unlimited hours of unpaid work, who could help but be swept up along with her to make it happen?  What a gift to have been able to help or be a role model for thousands of people!  Sue's other passions, including, especially, her friends and family, being near the water, sports, reading, biking, and travel, all brought such joy to her life.  We recently spoke about her desire to begin to plan her next adventure--she was in her pool but contemplating a trip to Italy.  I will greatly miss Sue's phone calls, her love of life, her passions, her interests, and, yes, her laughter!  My deepest condolences to Sue's family--I hope you find comfort in your many happy memories.
I’m shocked to hear of Ms. Smiths passing.  She was my gym coach and such a comfortable person to talk to.  When she was at school you always knew she was 100% committed to her students.  Condolences to he family and friends.

Our deep grief over Sue's death is comforted by these beautiful shared memories and by our own. Sue was always the first to offer help, whether it was a cheerful smile or the power washing of the deck.  She reached out to everyone, and in one case literally reached out to each person on our wonky Styrofoam tourboat in the Dominican Republic ,when our snorkeling rip encountered a storm and we were clamoring to get aboard. She was like the Statue of Liberty getting each one to safety. Sue loved the water, her doggies, her sudents, seemingly everyone, all of us, no matter what, but most of all she loved to laugh.  (Sometimes I'd have to adjust the phone's volume.)  Sue suffered a lot of loss,  but she always went forward with fierce determination and  optimism.  We are so grateful she fulfilled her lifetime dream of taking an African Safari .  Sue touched our hearts and enriched our lives. Godspeed dear friend.

We are deeply saddened to know we have lost a friend and educator who impacted the lives of so many. Sue’s legacy is that of a passionate educator who cared deeply about her students and wanted nothing but the best for them. Sue also valued the many friends and colleagues she knew over long career in education.

Sue had a smile that warmed a room…Thank you to the Smith family for sharing Sue with us. She will never be forgotten.

Rest In Peace Sue.

Love,

Joann Travis & Heidi Huczel

So very sorry to her of Ms. Smith's passing. She was the principal while I was at Dover HS, she was so involved in all aspects of school life. She was always there with a laugh and a smile.
I am so sorry to hear about Mrs. Smiths passing. She was my gym teacher. She wasn’t always my favorite, but if it wasn’t for her love of sports, education, and development I would not know anything about sports or the affect it has on health and wellness… She was an amazing teacher.
I was so shocked and sorry to hear of Sue’s passing.  We both taught at Dover and then she went on as Assistant Principal and Principal there.  She was always very pleasant and got along very well with her students.  I will always remember her happy attitude and her smile!  Rest In Peace, Sue.

Coach Smith was such an integral part of my life growing up in small town Dover.  She was not only my field hockey coach, but my closest confidant and most trusted friend.

Many years after graduating from Dover High School, I ran into her at a county education conference. We embraced, we shed happy tears, & she expressed how proud she was that I had chosen a profession in education!

She embedded in me a love of people, to embrace every moment as a learning experience, and how to live life to its fullest potential. She was  one of the most influential  people I have ever met in my life. I hold our memories together from so long ago in the most specialist place of my heart.

May she rest peacefully. I hope we can meet one day again…..and scoop some balls into the net ♥️

Sue and I recently reconnected after a shared high school and college experience. Both of us retiring to a good life.  I'm shocked by my dear friend's passing. She will always be "Smitty"in my heart. She left knowing so many loved her and kept her close. Rest in peace dear friend we will meet again.
I am so very sorry to hear this news today. I am actually shocked and pray for her family and friends. Sue was such a loving caring and respected person and educator. May she rest in enteral peace. She will be missed.🙏🏻
Ms. Smith you taught me to never give up, and to never let my disability be my weakness. Stop worrying what people think no one is perfect.  May you RIP
