Susanne's obituary

Susanne M. Hughes of Somerville, passed away peacefully on January 8, 2025, she was 89. Born in Somerville, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of the late Giuseppe and Angelina Bellino.

She was the beloved wife of 69 years to the late George Hughes. Devoted mother of the late George and Debbie Hughes. Iona O’Brien and her late husband Jimmy, Joseph Hughes, the late Mark Hughes, and the twins; Keith & Kenneth Hughes.

Dear sister of the late Joe Bellino, the late Richard Bellino, and Rita Armstrong and her late husband Thomas.

Loving Nana to Krystal Hughes, Ryan Hughes, Courtney Martinello and her husband Ryan, Eric O’Brien and his wife Emily, Dallas O’Brien and his wife Jazmin, and Halle Hughes. The greatest Nana to Shawna, Luca, Lena, Quinn, Emric, Roman and Emilia.

Cherished aunt of Joseph Bellino and his late wife Maria. Richard Bellino, Trish Bellino, and the late; Michael Bellino, Karen Bellino-Jacobs and Anthony Bellino. Anthony Pelullo, his wife Ellen, and their sons Anthony, Michael and John. The late Cheryl Votour and her husband Doug, along with their sons; Nickolas, Noah & Nolan. Shawn Armstrong and his wife Keri, along with their children; Chris & Katie.

Adored godmother of Esther Yao and Susanne Bernis. Along with lifelong family member/friend Lucy Chiarello.

Susanne lived a wonderful life full of true friendships and family. She enjoyed spending her summer months at her cottage in Salem, NH; visiting the beach by day and playing cards or Mahjong by night. In the winter she loved being in Largo, FL; once again spending the day by the pool and hanging out at the clubhouse by night. No matter what season we were in, she always sported her beautiful olive tone skin color.

She enjoyed watching all her Boston based sports team every night alongside George in their respected recliners, usually on the phone with one of her many loved ones because she worried about everyone and how they were doing.

When you came to her house there were three things that couldn't happen; you could never leave hungry, you could never leave feeling unloved, and you could never leave without a few dollar bills. She believed she had to repay everyone, even if it was just for the time spent with her. She was truly the greatest.

In honor of Sue's life, a Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, January  18, 2025, at 10:00 AM at St. Ann's Catholic Church, 399 Medford St in Somerville, MA. This will be a time for all who knew and loved her to reminisce, grieve, and celebrate her unforgettable journey on this earth.

As we remember Sue, we recognize her remarkable life and honor her memory. Her impact will be forever etched in our hearts and minds. May you rest in eternal peace Mommy, Aunty, Sister & Nana. Night-night.
