Susan Jane Wadle was born in Woodburn, Oregon to Leo and Mary Pankratz. She lived with her birth family in Molalla and North Portland. Susan graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1964. She had three children; Gia, Michael and Patrick. 

Susan went to school at the University of Northern Iowa. In that time, she earned her Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts and her Master's degree in Arts. She worked as a teacher. 

Most regrettably, Susan died in a care facility in Lacey, Washington on June 18, 2024. She is survived by her daughter, Gia Boesler of Texas, son Michael Wadle of Oregon, son Patrick Wadle of Portland, Oregon and granddaughter Kiara Quick of Iowa. Also surviving at the time of Susan's death were two brothers and sisters.

Susan was a loving, gentle, nurturing, intelligent and creative soul. She saw beauty everywhere. She appreciated kind, thoughtful people. She saw them as she wished to be seen: as a true individual.

Susan will be memorialized this Fall (2025) in the Memorial Garden at the University of Northern Iowa, with her name etched in brick. The Memorial Garden is located near the Maucker Union and university library.
