Susan's obituary

Susan K. Viskocil (Knickerbocker), age 65, of Modesto, CA and most recently Princeton, WI, passed away suddenly on March 27, 2022. Susan was born on 2/8/1956 in  Modesto, CA. Her Mom Evelyn moved to Hawaii with the girls where they attended Hawaiian Mission Academy.  After graduating from HMA in 1974. She went on to get her nursing degree at Pacific Union College .

After graduation, she landed her first job as an RN in Modesto. Susan met Joseph Viskocil in Los Angeles on a trip down south with a friend,  and they got married after a crazy courtship.  It was a fun wedding with a Gone with the Wind theme! Everyone was dressed in that period,  even Susan's grandparents!!  They were married almost 10 years and remained friends until Joey's death in 2014. Susan had moved back to Modesto and was sharing a home with her mom Evie for the last 20 or so years until moms death on 4/10/2021. Both Susan and her sister Jennifer would take a week long Mom BD trip mostly to the coast because mom loved the ocean.  Ellen and Debbie and sometimes Randy (Susan's cousin/Ellen's husband) would be included. Susan was a born caregiver and the last couple of years with her mom were tough on Susan,  both mentally and physically. Susan did so much for her mother but she also had a hard time asking  for help. She made sure mom was taken care of until the end. So did Jen who was always upgrading mom's comphy chairs among other things!

After Susan retired from Emanuel Medical Center where she worked in the OR, she got a wild hair (UHA) and decided to sell the house here in Mo-town and buy a place in Princeton where her sister Jennifer lives.  She did a road trip with her friend Debbie with her Kia, Sweetie her pooch and CiCi her kitty and a 6ft U-haul with the items that didn't fit in her pod!! (Thanks Betsy, Richard and James for all the help,  couldn't have done it without your packing skills!!) Susan got settled into her new place pretty quickly and she was actually enjoying the crazy winter weather there,  her time with Jen and at Jen's bar, even had a part time job a couple of doors down from Jen's!! She was so looking forward to  spring so she could put up some bird feeders and plant some flowers. Susan made friends so easily and was such a joy with a very infectious laugh! She loved her dogs beyond measure,  even "bitey dog" Molly, and then Sweetie which is such an appropriate name for her. She also had mad skills in the kitchen (toss toss, mix mix!) and could whip up all kinds of stuff from scratch, and she loved watching all the cooking shows. Her home was the hub for many family and friend gatherings like Thanksgiving dinner, many weekend meals with her BFF's and their men, and the Indian curry dinners were divine.

She was a total Movie buff and could quote lines from many of them and she and mom knew all the names of the actors.

We weren't ready for Susan to leave this world, but we are not in control! Hoping she's having fun with Mom, Joe, her Grandparents Lucille and Doug Semmens and her aunts and uncles.

She is survived by her sister Jennifer Knickerbocker, her cousins Randy Chaffin (Ellen), and Terry Chaffin, Aunt LaDonna Chaffin, cousins and too many friends to mention.  Those who knew her know this is the truth.

Susan,  you left this world too soon but you left it a better place with your love,  your humor,  your laugh and your giving spirit! You were always there for mom AND your friends! We are all sure that you have big Sunflowers in Heaven, and you are perfect in all ways.

You will forever be loved.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Susan's honor to Icaredogrescue.org  which is a non-profit 501(3)C.

Celebration of life will be held at her favorite restaurant in Modesto! Skewers is located in downtown Modesto on the corner of L and 9th St. Thursday 4/14/2022 @ 6pm.
