Susan's obituary

Susan “Susie” Middleton Tatum, 70, passed away peacefully on March 30, 2026. Born November 12, 1955, she was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, nurse, and devoted servant to others.

Susie is survived by her loving husband, Bill Tatum; her daughter, Kate Mosier (born 1984); and her son, Drew Moffat (born 1988). She was a proud grandmother to Christian, Georgia, and Eve. She is also survived by her siblings, John Paul Middleton, Chris Middleton, and Cameron Middleton. She was preceded in death by her sister, Marcia, in 2026; her father, Paul Middleton, in 2011; and her mother, Anne Shields, in 2025.

A graduate of Collegiate School in Richmond, Virginia (1973), Susie earned her nursing degree from Duke University in 1977. She dedicated her life to caring for others, both professionally and personally, with a deep passion for hospice care and service.

Susie later made her home in Corolla, North Carolina, where she found joy in the beach, swimming, and bike riding. She loved bringing people together—especially during holidays—creating warm, welcoming gatherings where everyone felt comfortable, cared for, and loved. In her later years, she volunteered at her local chapel and loved on her dogs, Phoebe & Darla. She will be remembered for her warmth, humor, resilience, and unwavering kindness.

She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
