Susan's obituary
Susan Elizabeth Swain (Brownlee), beloved wife, mother, and Nana, passed away peacefully on February 28, 2025, in La Porte, Texas, at the age of 75.
Susan was born on May 26, 1949, in Washington, Pennsylvania, to James and Earla Brownlee.
She met her husband, Ray Swain, while working at Foleys in Pasadena. They were married on August 19, 1972.
Ray and Susan were members at Fairmont Park Baptist Church for over 30 years, where she also worked as a church secretary. They are currently members of First Baptist Church Pasadena.
Susan was known for her unwavering faith, love, and dedication to her family. Susan had a deep trust in God, which guided her throughout her life. Her faith was a source of strength and inspiration not only for herself but also for everyone around her. She lived her life with kindness, compassion, and a deep commitment to her family, touching the hearts of all who knew her.
As a devoted wife to Ray, Susan exemplified what it meant to love unconditionally. Their lives were filled with many ups and downs, but all of it served as a testament to their children and others of a strong and loving marriage. They got their strength from each other and cared for each other through the many seasons of life.
As a mother, Susan was nurturing and devoted, always putting her children first. She had a remarkable ability to make each of them feel special and loved.
Her favorite role was that of Nana. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy, and she cherished every moment spent with them. She took immense pride in their lives. Whether attending their school events, taking them on trips, cooking for them, taking them out for ice cream, or just spending time with them, she always created a loving environment where they felt deeply cherished.
Susan is survived by her loving husband, Ray; her daughter, Andrea Fuqua and husband Brian; her son, Michael Swain and wife Pamela; her grandchildren, Amanda Wright, Kenna Fuqua, Rylan Fuqua, Marley Fuqua, Parker Swain, Logan Swain, Kylee Fuqua, and Mason Swain; her sister Ruby Hepner; her sister Kathy Jenkins and husband Glen; and many other family members and friends.
