Susan's obituary

August 2, 1968 - November 1, 2021

On Monday November 1, 2021 Susan Jenée Stark broke free from a body long plagued by pain and chronic illness and was immediately in the presence of her Lord and Saviour where she is robed in an eternally perfected body that can only know worship and praise. All the victory belongs to Jesus!

Susan was born in Emporia, Kansas, USA on August 2, 1968. She was the eldest of three in the family and, from her earliest days, her boundless creativity was evident. She was an accomplished writer, blogger, and columnist, a gifted singer, an event organizer, and she never met a craft that she wasn’t willing to try (and usually excel at).

Susan attended multiple schools throughout her life and was always on a quest to learn all that she could. After high school she studied nursing at Salem Baptist College in Salem, Oregon. Next she attended Vancouver Community College and became a certified Medical Laboratory Technologist. Later, after she began her own family, she studied at Douglas College in New Westminster, BC to become a Certified Lactation Consultant. Most recently she was a graduate of CDI in Surrey, BC with a certification in Rehabilitation Therapy.

Susan battled many health problems including Chronic Lyme Disease for most of her adult life. In her final years she was often forced to sleep or rest far more than she would have liked, due to disabling fatigue. Even when she felt her worst she still enjoyed laying in bed and having her kids gathered around to tell her about their day or various things happening in their lives.

Susan’s greatest legacy and her proudest accomplishment is her six children and one grandson who meant the world to her. When her children were young she homeschooled them for several years and prided herself on her unique “unschooling” approach. During the season when she was able to stay home full time with her family she also made and sold homemade soaps and lotions and she wrote an e-book entitled “A Woman’s Place Is In The Tub.” She enjoyed preparing meals for friends from church and the community whenever there was a need.

Susan is survived by her six children: Joel Robert Wilson, Caitlin Jenée Vijulie (and husband Ovidiu), Hannah Courtney Marshall (and husband Alex and son Ezra Joel), Noah Donald James Wilson (and fiancé April Cormier), Zachary Michael Wilson, and Sara Faith Wilson; her parents Michael and Lynda Stark, sister Rochelle Stark, and brother Stephen Stark. She is also survived by many special aunts, uncles, cousins and cherished friends. Susan’s beloved dogs Tikka and Sadie and her cat Jack were always by her side and will also miss her deeply.

Susan was preceded in death by her babies lost to miscarriage; her grandparents: Donald and Clara Stark, Donald and Pat Baldwin, Wanda York, and adopted grandfather Courtney James; and Uncles Russell Baldwin, David Baldwin, and Jimmy York. Her dog Lulu followed Susan in death on November 11, 2021.

Although we may no longer physically see Susan, we believe she has left an indelible mark on all of us privileged enough to have known her. Susan would want all of us to remember her with a smile rather than with tears. We will miss her witty sense of humor, her contagious smile, her love of life and her creative spirit. She will be deeply loved forever and will never be forgotten. This memorial is for us, not for Susan. We cry on this side of heaven, but Susan is not crying any more. She is now among the heavenly ranks with our great Saviour and she would want us to find comfort in knowing she is free from pain and joyfully at home with her Heavenly Father and her loved ones gone before.

A memorial service will take place at a later date and details will be announced on this website and on Susan’s CaringBridge and Facebook pages.
