Susan had a huge heart and engaged in activities that brought her joy. This was reflected in her beautiful garden, artwork, her children and taking in a rescue dog, giving her a happy life. May Susan rest in peace.

Susie was a beautiful person

Reflected  in her 2 wonderful children

My heart goes out to Isaac and Alex

I am so sorry I won’t be able to attend the memorial gathering in Susie’s beautiful garden. I will be on a trip through Sunday but I will be thinking of all of you and especially of Susie and sending love.

I ran into Susie about a week before she passed. We talked about our kids and she filled me in on what Isaac and Alex were up to. She told me how proud she was of both of them and we both talked about how very grateful we were for our wonderful healthy kids. We planned to get together for a drink “soon”. Oh how I wish we could have had that drink together. I will forever see Susie’s smile and hear her laugh. And I will see her beauty in her kids’ faces and know in my heart that she lives on.
Alex and Isaac—I send you so much love and know that I am here for you forever and I hope you reach out to me for anything in the future. I watched you grow up (with my kids—your friends Marcus and Thomas) and I witnessed how much your mom loved you and was so very proud of you every day of her life. Love and hugs to you both. Marcie

Susie and I both got divorced the same year and we went to a kind of speed dating thing at a bar —it was disastrous: the men at that event were scary. 😱

However, Susie’s sense of humor and her famous laugh made it an awesome memory of laughing and sisterhood. We ended up vowing to never do one of those again, and we left to have a good beer at one of our quiet local bars to laugh it off.

I miss her so much and will treasure our long and close friendship forever. Big love to you, my dear friend!

I feel touched to have witnessed Susan’s bad ass spirit, flower whisperer, warrior with a trowel and most proud mama bear I have ever known. She was tough as nails and a force in her own right. Every flower I plant, every tree I pass in Lincoln park, her memory will live on. Because just like her garden, her spirit will bloom on all of us who knew her, a little tougher, a little brighter, forever touched by a woman who could make anything grow.
