Susan Joy Osterland (Markel), 68, passed away on February 27, 2025, in Pontiac, Michigan surrounded by close family.  

Born on September 28, 1956, in Detroit, Michigan, to the late Stewart and Carol Markel. Susan built a life filled with dedication and passion for breeding AKC Cocker Spaniels under the name of Riverside Cockers. Susan also bred AKC Golden Retrievers. She was the proud owner and operator of Common Scents Canine Resort in Ortonville, Michigan, where she devoted herself to the care and well-being of animals. Her work reflected her deep love for dogs and her commitment to providing them with a safe and nurturing environment. Susan loved spending time with family and enjoyed hosting holiday parties. 

Susan is survived by her longtime boyfriend, Richard Cannon, her son, Ryan (Shanon) Osterland; her daughter, Andrea (David) Reid; and her beloved grandsons, Alexander and Owen Reid. She also leaves behind her brother, Lynn(Barb) Markel and many loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister, Carrie Frank.  

Her memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew her.
