SUSAN LYNN MAY, formerly of Anaheim, passed away in her sleep on May 10, 2024, at her home in Indio due to Atherosclerotic heart failure (updated by the coroner on 07/04/2024), previously thought to be COPD. “Sue,” the second child of Richard and Rayma (Robison) May, was born on August 10, 1951, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The family moved to Anaheim, California, in 1955, where Sue lived on Porto Place (a particularly close neighborhood of young families) and attended Loara and Betsy Ross Elementary Schools, Ball Junior High School, and Anaheim High School, where she graduated in 1969. From an early age, Sue excelled in sports and dreamed of becoming an Olympian until a knee injury in junior high ended that dream. Nonetheless, at Anaheim High School, she happily participated in sports and games and was chosen Girl’s Athletic Association’s Junior Class Girl Athlete of the Month for October 1968. After school, she worked briefly at Disneyland as a ride operator. She moved to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, in the late 1970s, where she worked for Harley Davidson, returning to Anaheim in the 1980s, where she worked for Ford Aerospace making computer chips for the Hubble Telescope. Later, she worked for AT&T and assembled electronics for Toshiba. In the 2020s, she moved to Indio, where she worked as a security guard for various companies, saying how much she "enjoyed working with people" until just before her death. Outside work, she pursued interests in electronics, UFOs and similar phenomena, and sketch art. She loved animals throughout her life and was a loving pet parent to Fred, Liberty, Erin, and others. She was always known for her ready, free-wheeling and anarchic sense of humor and was usually the life of every party. She was enthusiastic about her friendships and was frequently generous, always seeking to be of help and service to anyone who needed it, like when her brother Bob lost his high school senior year yearbook, and she gave him her's as a Christmas gift. She is predeceased by her parents and survived by her brothers Bob and Rick (Linda), relatives throughout the country, and the many friends who loved her. Ultimately, more than anything, she loved her dog Bud, who was with her when she passed. May she rest in peace. She has been cremated and will be inurned at Evergreen Memorial Park in Riverside. A remembrance event is being planned for September in Anaheim.
