I don’t remember why I took this photo but I love how happy Susie looks. She and I used to take our dogs for walks once or twice a week. I miss those days. My heart goes out to her boys, family and to those who knew her. She was such a light and I will always remember her kind heart. 💕

Susie had every best quality of a city manager - calm, reasoned, caring for the community, and she had the added benefits of her personality to bring to the work: a deep caring for the people she served with, and the perseverance and optimism to always make the best of even really challenging situations. I was so fortunate to be able to serve with Susie on both the City Managers’ board and as our Finance Director in Monmouth to learn from and watch her patience and practical skills at work. And doubly lucky to call her a friend I could confide in and to find the positive in everything. I will treasure memories of Susie and working together.

To Susie's friends and family,
I am sorry for your loss. Susie and I worked together in Oregon city management. I had the privilege of presenting her with the Oregon City/County Management President's Cup while she was with Gervais. She was a gift to the communities she served.

Susie, was one of the first persons to reach out when I started my career in City Government, she was such an inspiration to us all! She will be forever missed. Boys know that your mother was one of the good ones and is now resting easy in the lords arms. She will forever be watching over you!

From the City of Monmouth: This was posted on Wednesday, August 20th. I ordered flags at half-mast starting at 9 am.
Today, the city staff of the City of Monmouth is mourning the loss of their friend and co-worker, Susie Marston. Susie was the City of Monmouth Finance Director for just a few years but her career in public service spans decades. She is known for her leadership and her kindness; traits that she consistently carried no matter where in the state she was serving.
Staff at the City of Monmouth knew her as a silent warrior. She brought beauty, levity, and grace to any situation. She will be missed for her ability to calm a room with her presence while at the same time, lighting it up with her smile.
City Hall, Monmouth Public Works, Monmouth Police Department, Monmouth Senior Community Center, Monmouth Power and Light, and the Monmouth Public Library will be flying their flags at half-staff today to honor Susie, what she meant to the City of Monmouth, what she gave in public service, and who she will forever be to the people who knew and loved her.
