Susan's obituary
Susan (Prickett) Krueger answered the gentle and loving call of the Good Shepherd, Jesus Christ, and entered eternal life on June 22, 2023, at the age of 75 years. Susan was born on January 30, 1948, in Manitowoc, Wisconsin where she spent her youth before graduating from Lincoln High School in 1966. She received her Registered Nurse’s degree and certification from Milwaukee County General Hospital School of Nursing in 1969 and practiced nursing there for five years. It was during this time she met her future husband, Mark Krueger, a Lutheran pastoral student, and after two years of dating, they were married on August 18, 1973.
Throughout the years, the Lord blessed their marriage with four children, Peter, Nicole, Micah, and Carey. In 1974 when Mark became pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church in Temple, Texas, Susan worked at Scott and White Hospital until 1979 when they moved to serve in a mission field in Zambia, Africa.
In Zambia, Susan worked as a librarian in the American Embassy School. In 1989, Susan moved with Mark to serve in the Apache Mission Reservation in Whiteriver, Arizona. Here Susan was hired by the Apache nation to use her nursing skills in an area clinic. In addition, she volunteered her time working for the Lutheran schools’ library. In 1999, Susan again moved with Mark to serve in a missionary station in India. Here Susan used her talents to supervise ten orphanages with over three hundred children, improving their quality of life and introducing them to a Christian curriculum. She also taught English as a second language to male Indian seminary and pre- seminary students.
Through all these years in domestic and foreign missionary fields, Susan was a constant encourager and faithful soulmate for her husband as he fulfilled his duties of spreading the Gospel. Upon retirement in 2013 in San Antonio, Susan continued to be the consummate mother and grandmother showering her family with unconditional love, providing a home atmosphere filled with affection, laughter, harmony, and Christian guidance. She made decorative Christmas stockings and elaborate baby blankets for her grandchildren. She loved gardening, and with her green thumb, Susan turned their yard into a beautiful and restful place with a colorful variety of blooming plants. She also enjoyed watching birds gather around the feeders and birdbaths she provided for them.
Susan was an excellent cook, and her family loved her bake-from-scratch recipes, especially the homemade bread, cookies, and other delicious desserts. As a faithful member of Our Savior Lutheran Church, Susan regularly attended worship services and Bible classes. Members enjoyed hearing her tell blest memories of the wonderful experiences God granted her during her years serving with her husband in various mission fields.
Susan continued to use her God-given talents and abilities to serve the Lord at Our Savior by volunteering to assist whenever and wherever she could to help conduct ministerial programs for the congregation. She had a penchant for encouraging and helping the poor and special needs adults. Susan is survived by her husband of 49 years, Rev. Mark Krueger, her daughter and son-in-law Nicole and Craig Harmon, sons and daughters-in-law Peter and Johanna Krueger, Micah & Marcia Krueger, Carey & Cindy Krueger and grandchildren, Ellery Geiger, Elijah & Abigail Krueger, Eli Harmon and twins Kai & Ellis Krueger, her brother Paul and sisters Mary and Christine in the Milwaukee area, numerous relatives of the extended Krueger family and many church friends.
