I’m Susan’s neighbor, and she was always kind; I would cross the street and meet her in her beautiful herb garden, and she would share with me some of the herbs that I loved. I miss her and will always remember how kind she was.

Susan was such a wonderful person and neighbor growing up across the street from the Pennings. She babysat for me, and then I idolized her in her teen years. Our parents were close and the whole Penning family will always be dear to me. I played the flute for Susan and Raynard's wedding, and was so touched to be asked to be a part of the celebration. Please accept our deepest sympathies, from both myself and my parents. Dad cried when I told him that I heard that Susan had passed. Wishing all of you peace and comfort. Laura (Cayse) Vaughan

Susan and I became friends when my daughter Theresa married her son Ryan 12+ years ago. Although we were almost exact opposites in many ways, we did share a love for our children and grandchildren—plus a love for shopping and often bought little gifts for one another. When I complained of being cold, Susan bought me some Heat 32 shirts to keep me warm; when she said she had no sugar bowl or creamer, I purchased a set for her. And so it went through the years. When I came to Dallas from my home in Las Vegas at Christmas, breakfast or dinner on Christmas Day at Susan’s home in Ovilla was special. She always made me feel welcome, and I enjoyed spending time with her family. Susan was a gentle, caring soul, and I will miss her kind heart and generous, loving spirit.

Susan was my youngest son's "Parents as Teachers" teacher when he was little, she was wonderful with him. We had a special bond because her mom was friends with my mom when I was younger so family was always a topic we would get talking about when she would visit. We were sad when she told us she was moving to TX. I would always ask her mom about her when I would see her. So sorry for your loss, she was a wonderful, caring person ♥

Eva and Gam Gam would play “rock the baby” and it was mom’s turn to be the baby and to have mom sit on her lap while Eva patted her to sleep. We laughed so hard because Eva kept saying “oh you are a big baby!. Come here. Come here. Let me pat you. Get off your to big. Hurry Gam Gam my legs hurt.” We could not stop laughing. ❤️

This was at my wedding reception. Mom was always the life of the party and so much fun to be with!. Miss you mom. I will always cherish each moment we had together and as a family. You were our leader, caretaker, teacher, guidance counselor and so much more. Love you unconditionally.
Susan was the sister I didn’t have. I will miss her. One memory is: We drove to visit Rayn at college and stayed with him and his roommate. We went into the bathroom and saw the tub. Oh my gosh! There were two footprints in the tub and the rest was black. We had to clean it before we could use it. How could they stand it? Another memory that is funny is: Susan was game for everything. We would go around the yard picking up rabbit poop and putting it in the garden. Let me tell you there was a lot of it. That was easier than picking up the cow patties.

You were the first to meet our Wren. She was so tiny when we brought her home. You and I had to make an emergency run to Old Navy to find the smallest onesies we could find!

Our condolences to all of my sweet friend Susan’s family.
What a great friendship we had. Missing you so much.
I remember the first time we started our friendship.
It was at one of our church fellowship dinners.
John and I invited you and Raynard to sit with us and the rest is history. There was never enough time to talk before service or after.
Our husbands always waited patiently. Oh, and all the text messages!
Thank you for the sweet memories. Until we meet again dear friend.

God give your family peace. I will miss your kind heart and lovely smile.

My son, Wyatt, is now in the 8th grade in Maypearl. Ever since 2nd grade if you ask him who is favorite teacher ever was, it has always been and still is Mrs. Kearbey. I hope she knows the impact she made on his life.

One of my favorite recent memories with my mom. Wearing our Christmas sweaters, drinking hot chocolate, and baking cookies in my tiny (350 sq ft!) apartment in NYC. I will forever cherish this time we had. Love you, mom.
