Susan's obituary
Our dear precious mother, Susan Johnson, 79, sadly passed away on Thursday, February 1, 2024, at her home in Niceville, Florida. She was born in Alameda County, Oakland, CA, on July 28th, 1944, to Bascom Joseph Brown and Isabell Anna Logsdon, however she was raised by her stepmom, Olive Cecilia Brown. She was raised in the Lutheran church.
Mom was married to her beloved husband, our awesome dad, Thomas Johnson on March 2nd, 1963 in California. Shortly thereafter they moved to Irving, Texas where they started their family and dad pursued his career as a jet engine engineer. In 1967, they decided to adopt a baby boy, their son Eric Joseph. After a few years in Irving, Mom, dad and baby Eric moved a short distance away to their new house in Bedford, Texas where they would live for the next several years. Shortly thereafter, in 1969, Mom and dad then decided to adopt again. This time a beautiful baby girl, Mary Lynn. Then, to their surprise, Mom became pregnant, and in April of 1974, delivered a healthy, precious baby girl, Amy Ann. In total, mom was mother to 3 beautiful children, (Eric, Mary, and Amy), whom she raised with endless unconditional love and devoted her life to them.
Mom loved working in her flower and vegetable gardens, sewing (she actually made lots of our school clothes/dresses and patched our pants like no other), cooking, and especially reading a good book, preferably on a beach somewhere, like in Maui!
Mom decided to go back to school in the early 80's to pursue her career in the medical records field. She graduated from Tarrant County Jr College with a degree in medical records in the mid 80's. She worked several years as the medical records manager at the Edwards Cancer Center in Bedford, Texas. Between 1986 and 1992, our family would end up moving several more times due to Dads career - Valencia, California for almost a year, then back to Texas in Colleyville for a few years, then Bedford again for another few years before finally finding their waterfront dream home in Lewisville, Texas. By this time the kids had pretty much moved out on their own. In the early 2000's, mom was diagnosed with colon cancer and went through several bouts of chemo and radiation treatments before finally, by the grace of God, beating the disease and becoming cancer-free.
Mom loved the beach like no other, and her and dad fell in love with the Hawaii Island of Maui, where her and dad bought a condo right off the beach in the late 80's and vacationed there off and on for several years.
In July of 2015, Mom sadly lost her beloved Thomas, our awesome dad, of 52 years, to lung cancer. In 2017, with no immediate family no longer in the DFW area, mom decided to sell the dream house her and dad so much loved and made the big move to the panhandle area of Florida to be closer to her daughter Amy and her family and grandkids. In the summer of 2021, as mom's health was slowly deteriorating, her son Eric and family moved down from Illinois to be closer to her and Amy's family. Mom was thrilled to have her kids and grandkids so close to her during her final years of life and cherished the new memories that were made during that time. She is and will be truly missed now and forever. We thank you God for blessing us with such a wonderful mother.
There will be a small private family service.
