Susan Sonntag Hughes, age 67, passed away March 28, 2023 after a full life that ended with a long road with Alzheimer’s. She was born August 6. 1955 to Dr. Roy Windham Sonntag and Rachel Jane Sonntag.

Susan graduated from Cooper High School in Abilene, Texas and college from Midwestern University in Wichita Falls, Texas. While she excelled in her career in the oil and gas industry, Susan’s real passions were being involved in her church, gardening, tennis and, spending time with her family. Susan was a wonderful mother, grandmother and, friend and cherished and loved by those who knew her . She loved going to museums, visiting the arboretum, finding new restaurants to try and, taking a long walk on a nice day.

Preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Rachel Sonntag. Susan is survived by her daughter Erica Apostalo, husband Sean of The Woodlands, Texas and their three children, Emma, Charlotte and, Rachel; son Christopher Hughes of Spring, Texas; sister Karen Hiefner, husband Terry of Bedford, Texas; brother Bruce Sonntag, wife Lezli of Farmington, New Mexico; brother Eric Sonntag, wife Robin of Oklahoma; and many wonderful nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Scyamore Creek Ranch in Shenandoah and Oasis Hospice for taking great care of Susan in her final days.

A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church of Hurst on Saturday, April 22, 2023 at 11:00am.

Susan was generous in her support of others and organizations. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking to consider a donation go to First Hurst United Methodist Church or to the Alzheimer’s Association in honor of Susan.
