Susan's obituary

Our precious mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Susan “Sue” Kay Duvall, 67, of Republic, Missouri, excitedly ran the fastest she has ever ran into Jesus’ arms on January 7, 2022. It would have been much sooner if it was up to her,  but God had other plans, which she was not too happy about. We are thankful that God gave us a couple of extra weeks with her but I am sure she asked God why He made her wait the minute she got up there, along with asking if Bigfoot was real.

Susan was born the middle child to parents Donald and Gladys Bradley on June 14, 1954, in Bloomington, Illinois. We would every so often remember to tell her it was National Middle Child Day, but like most middle children we forgot most years.

On July 10, 1976, Susan married the love of her life James "Jay" Duvall in Illinois. They would later move to Missouri and raise two daughters, Hayley and Brittany.  Family life was important to them and family game nights were a weekly event. If they were not at home spending time as a family, they were at the ball park where Sue was sure to have a hot cup of black coffee in 100 degree weather. We could always count on coming home to homemade goodies off the bus, a homemade meal at dinner and always a clean house (we did not inherit any of those traits).

Susan always said that being a mother and watching children was her calling and she watched children until she retired from Hope Childcare in 2014. She absolutely loved being a mother and she treasured her children the most until grandchildren came and they became her world. She was a pro at singing “I’m a Little Teapot”, reading “'Twas the Night Before Christmas” and Animals Christmas Eve on Christmas Eve, telling us how to decorate her Christmas tree,  and giving her grandchildren all the sweets that they wanted. Grandma’s house always had sweets as she believed the major food groups were donuts, cookies, candy, and coffee.

All jokes aside, Susan was a God fearing Christian who loved God and couldn’t wait to transition from her earthly home to her forever home in paradise. While we are heartbroken that she is no longer here with us, we are happy she is now with Jesus and our dad. She has left us with a lot of memories and traditions for us to pass down to our kids and look back on. She gave the best advice and loved us unconditionally. She was not only our mother, but our best friend.  Our world is a little dimmer with her gone, but we cherish the memories and times we were blessed to have with her. We hope we can be at least half the woman she was.

Susan is survived by her daughters, Hayley and her son-in-law Jay of Texas and Brittany of Missouri; grandchildren, Kaylyn, Aria and Chase (Jay and Hayley), Nettie, Caleb, Joseph and Jaylee (God Grandchildren of Joe and Koti) Fort Stewart, GA;  siblings Karen Brown of Idaho and Terry Bradley of Illinois; nephews  Clifton (Mandy) Brown of routedownfam.com, Nick Brown of Idaho, and Brett Halsey of Alabama; nieces Beth Jackson of Indiana and Marcella Jackson of Mississippi, sisters-in-law Virginia Halsey of Illinois and Dora Duvall of Florida;  great nieces and nephews, other family members, “adopted” children and friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 19 years James “Jay” Duvall; daughter, Diane; parents, Donald and Gladys Bradley; nephew, Andy and brothers in law, Cliff Brown of Texas and Tom Halsey of Illinois.

Due to COVID services will not be held at the current time.
