Susan's obituary
With broken hearts, we share the passing of Susan Crackel (née Dutzman). Susan died peacefully on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, in Christiana, Delaware, surrounded by loved ones following a sudden illness. She was 67 years old.
Born October 17, 1957 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Susan was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She is survived by her devoted husband of 41 years, Kim; her son, Thomas Crackel, and his wife, Juliana; her daughter, Margaret Campbell, and her husband, John; and her beloved granddaughter, Josephine. Though only five weeks old, Josephine brought Susan immeasurable joy in her final days, and Susan was blessed to meet and hold her first grandchild.
She is also survived by her brother, Matthew Dutzman, and a circle of nieces and nephews, extended family, and dear friends who meant the world to her. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joan and Rudy Dutzman, and her brother, Christopher Dutzman.
A graduate of Conestoga High School and Penn State University, Susan built a meaningful career as a Program Tester and QA Analyst while successfully raising her children. She brought not just skill and sharp attention to detail, but also kindness, humor, and thoughtfulness to every workplace she joined. Her colleagues respected her deeply — not only for what she accomplished, but for the generous way she made those around her feel seen and supported.
Susan had a remarkable gift for making others feel loved. Her presence brought comfort, warmth, and often, laughter — especially with her family at home, which was filled with humor and joy. She treasured time spent with loved ones, whether on family vacations or during peaceful evenings on the back patio of her home in Oxford, Pennsylvania, where she especially enjoyed watching the sunset with her husband. She also had a special place in her heart for her granddogs and was known to spoil them with lots of love and treats.
Susan’s life was marked by love, kindness, and laughter. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who were lucky enough to know her. She was deeply loved — and always will be.
