Susan's obituary
She croaked. *
* When we asked our mom what she would like an obituary to say when the time came, she was adamant that is what it should say. We asked her multiple times, so we will honor her request, but also share a more traditional obituary.
Susan "Sue" Burch, nee Gartin, passed away peacefully on November 5, 2021 after a short and brave battle with lung cancer. She is survived by her partner of 35 years, Ron Page, her daughters Tamara Hahs and Jeanine Burch, her grandchildren Madeleine, Hayden, and Sean, and her sister, Cindy Welles. Family was everything to Sue.
Sue was born on April 20, 1949 in San Francisco, CA, to Charles Gartin and Margaret Chamberlin. She grew up in what she often described as the quintessential 1950's California neighborhood in Alamo on Sunnybrook Road. She attended Acalanes High School where she met Ron Burch, whom she married on May 25, 1969. When Ron was in the Air Force they moved to Grand Forks, North Dakota and then settled down in Pleasanton, CA where she resided for the remainder of her life. For a few years, she worked in the insurance industry. Then, in 1983, Sue took a big leap of faith and started her own Limousine business called Touch of Elegance Limousine Service. After running the company for a couple years, she went to work as an administrative assistant/receptionist at Toyota Motor Credit. She worked there until she took a medical retirement.
In her retirement, Sue was happiest being with her family, especially her grandchildren. She often helped take care of them while her daughters were working. She loved taking trips with her family, loved reading and was a voracious reader, loved movies, television, gardening, Christmas, sitting out on her veranda, Pirates of the Caribbean, and listening to music. She loved to dance and sing along with her favorite bands: Journey, Foreigner, Queen, Michael Jackson, Bobby Darin, and so many others from the 50's and 60's. She was famous for some of her quirky sayings and outgoing personality. She was generous to a fault; always bringing candy to the staff at doctor's offices and making sure everyone was remembered at Christmas. Some of her happiest times were spent with her sister and brother-in-law at their home in Clyde. Sue had a genuine love for people and was always putting everyone else ahead of herself. She was so incredibly full of life and her daughters' biggest cheerleader.
This world was brighter with Sue Burch in it. Her loss has impacted her family greatly and she will be thought of and loved all our remaining days.
