Susan's obituary

Susan Elizabeth Brandi Burdick, age 71, of Clinton, Connecticut passed away on October 26, 2021 due to complications of chronic illness. She was preceded in death by her father, Joseph Alberto Brandi, her mother, Esther Magnan Brandi, and her brothers, Peter and Mark Brandi. She is survived by her husband, Brett Burdick; her sister, Joan Brandi Lowther; her Aunt Dolores Brandi; her Uncle Hank Cateura; and a host of beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and friends.

Susan was born and raised in New Haven. She attended St. Bernadette School and St. Mary's High School, from where she sustained many treasured friendships. Susan earned her degree in Elementary Education from Central Connecticut State University and she was especially interested in early childhood development. Susan had recently retired in 2019 after 45 years of service and dedication to Yale University Libraries. She had worked at Yale's Sterling Memorial, Law and Forestry libraries before joining the Divinity School Library, where she remained for 29 years and worked as a Circulation and Interlibrary Loan Manager. She leaves behind many dear friends and esteemed colleagues from her years at Yale.

Susan loved her family and friends very deeply. She cherished our many family gatherings and trips together. Although she did not have children of her own, she was an absolutely wonderful godmother, aunt, and great aunt, roles that she took on with such pride and joy. She had a vibrant personality and those who knew and loved her will remember her as positive, outgoing, smart, fun, stylish, adventurous, generous, kind, and funny. She was a New Englander at heart and loved traditions and the four seasons. She enjoyed a variety of hobbies, including skiing, ice-skating, boating, knitting, crocheting, reading, traveling, and dining out.

A memorial mass will be held at St. Bernadette Church in New Haven on Saturday, November 20, 2021 at 12noon. In lieu of flowers, Susan's family requests that donations be made to the American Heart Association or the Autism Society of America.
