Susie and I shared time in Bible study when first I came to know her through the church I and her family attended. She formed, along with several others, a spiritual canopy over me in my early twenties that set an example for me as a mentor in faith, a Godly woman. I marveled at her skills as a mother of so many, those skills being quite evident. Once during a brief absence of our lead pastor, Sue demonstrated her creative ability to bring people together by having us form a large circle around the seating area. While holding hands, we all sang a few songs that she suggested. That experience of "community in joy," as impressive as it was, formed a lasting memory. Sue was my attending nurse at the birth of my first son during a "surprise" home delivery. That involvement and her kind gestures of caring support that followed sealed my friendship with Sue over 45 years ago. With each visit to both her Stevenson home and Rock Cove residence, gracious hospitality was offered to me. Sue was always positive in sharing about Randy, Bob, Heidi, Paul, Chris, Don, Tod, and Cindy, and I, as well, was able to trust her confidence in relaying prayer requests about my family members. I miss her laugh and the genuine exchange of love through our hugs.

Our family met Susie before she married Hugh and his children.  Bob and I and our kids just meshed perfectly with her family. And we loved Hugh and all of the kids.  For  years Sue, Nancey and I, often also with Joy, had a wonderful friendship; the kind where all parties could always count on the others, could always speak freely, and laugh a lot!! And everything at church was somehow accomplished by one or all of us. These have all been friendship that lasted a literal lifetime, as I am the only one left. How I miss them all! You kids had such great parents. How blessed you have been. You took good care of them. Thank you. Love you all!!
