Sunny's obituary

Sunny Oghenekevwe Glasgow, born on September 23, 1946, departed from our world on August 2, 2023. Sunny was a gentleman of unending kindness and generosity. His warmth and love for his family, friends, and all those he met will be profoundly missed.

Sunny was from Agbarho / Oghara in Delta State (then Bendel State), Nigeria. He was born to Mr. and Mrs. David and Ukomomare Glasgow-Ekpo, in Cowan Estate where his dad worked as an Engineer at United African Corporation Nigeria (UACN).

His formative years began in Nigeria. He finished elementary school in the Ijebu Igbo area in Ogun State in 1959. He began his secondary school education at Ebenezer Grammar school, Abeokuta in 1961 and transferred to Hussey College, Warri in 1962 on a UACN scholarship. He graduated in December 1965, and briefly attended Yaba College of Technology, Lagos where he majored in Laboratory Science Technology, while also working as a commercial clerk at Electric Corporation of Nigeria (formerly known as NEPA) from 1966 to 1969. In December 1969, he moved to the United States to further his college education. He briefly attended St. Francis College - New York before transferring to Long Island University - New York, where he obtained his BSc. degree in Marketing and an MBA in International Business.

Sunny also met his high school sweetheart, wife, “Babe” and “Forever Love,” Mrs. Megal Olufunmilayo Glasgow, in 1964 at Hussey College, Warri where they both attended school. They got married on October 6, 1971, and are blessed with their children, Steve, Sean, Michele, Marilyn, Maurene, and Mollie.

Sunny and his family moved to Nigeria in 1976. He had a brief spell working with the Federal Ministry of Trade, established his own company, MSE International, and was subsequently employed in 1977 by UTILGAS, a subsidiary of Amstar Gas of Israel & Overseas Public Utilities of New York. He was the General Manager - Sales & Marketing, overseeing various branches and key projects throughout Nigeria. He relocated back to the U.S. in 1998, was employed in Quality Management by the State of New Jersey at Greystone Park Psychiatric Hospital, where he retired in January 2017. He subsequently established SGE Innovative Solutions Ltd, a management solution based company, where he was President and CEO.

Sunny leaves behind a vibrant legacy, marked by his natural ability to forgive and his inherent spirit of helping others. His generosity extended beyond his immediate family, touching the lives of those he interacted with and leaving an indelible imprint on their hearts. His learned values of generosity, love for his family and others, and his constant urge to help others were the best lessons he had to share. He was a “Father to All”

Sunny was predeceased by his parents Mr. David Glasgow-Ekpo, Mrs. Ukomomare Glasgow-Ekpo (nee Ododo), and his sister, Christiana Isioroh.
