Sung Pil Kim, 50, of Des Peres, Missouri, passed away peacefully on June 25, 2025, in Zionsville, Indiana, after facing a rare and aggressive form of colon cancer with extraordinary courage and grace. He was born on October 25, 1974, in Korea and was raised in Indianapolis, Indiana.

A graduate of Lawrence North High School, Sung went on to attend Indiana University Bloomington, where he became a member of the Asian American Association and formed friendships that lasted a lifetime. A lifelong sports enthusiast, Sung had a special passion for basketball and later found great joy and camaraderie on the tennis courts. His athletic spirit was matched only by the strong bonds he built with those he played alongside.

Professionally, Sung made his mark throughout his career in the energy industry as a skilled and respected energy trader. Personally, he was known for his gentle spirit, quiet strength, and the warmth he brought to everyone around him. Children and pets alike were naturally drawn to him, sensing the kindness at his core. To his cherished circle of friends and their families, he was affectionately known as “Pou Sung,” or Uncle Sung — a beloved and steady presence, deeply woven into their lives.

Sung leaves behind family and a community of friends who loved him deeply and will remember him with tenderness and gratitude.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 9, at the Viking Meadows Clubhouse in Westfield, Indiana (15757 Viking Meadows Drive, Westfield, IN 46074).
