Steven's obituary

It is with profound sadness that the family of Steven Robert Straley announces his passing on November 29, 2024, at the age of 50. Born on October 16, 1974 to Judith and Ronald Straley, Steven was a cherished individual known for his kind, loving, and humorous personality.

Steven's early years were spent in Northville, where he developed an interest in pursuing higher education. Upon graduating from Northville High School in 1993, he enrolled at Western Michigan University. There, he earned a Bachelors degree in Criminal Justice and Spanish, graduating in 1998.

After college, Steven embarked on a career as a Border Patrol agent in Southern California. His dedication and exceptional skills quickly set him apart from his peers. However, the events of September 11th presented a new opportunity, and Steven returned to his home state to join the Federal Air Marshals in Detroit. In this role, Steven dedicated himself to protecting the skies, demonstrating extraordinary skills as a marksman. His expertise earned him multiple awards, including the prestigious Triple Nickel, a testament to his exceptional abilities and unwavering commitment to his duty.

Known for his infectious smile and warm hugs, Steven was an avid outdoorsman who found joy in snowboarding, hiking, and water activities. His love for the outdoors was matched only by his love for good food and his family. He enjoyed walking his dog, chatting with neighborhood friends, and vacations - from the beach to the slopes, as long as Steven was with loved ones, he was happy.

Steven met his lifelong friend and wife, Amy, while attending college. Their 29-year love story was filled with commitment, unconditional love, and respect. Together, they built a life centered around family and shared experiences. From playground dates with granddaughter Wesley to dance competitions with daughter Zoë, Steven never missed an opportunity to support his family. A devoted husband, father, son, brother, and "Pops," his family was his world.

Steven is survived by his beloved wife, Amy Straley; his children, Zoë Straley and Jacob Zawaski; his parents, Judith and Ronald Straley; his sister, Jaimie Straley; his granddaughter, Wesley Zawaski; and his daughter-in-law, Tracey Zawaski.

Steven's legacy is one of love, dedication, and resilience. His life was a testament to the power of kindness and the importance of family. His memory will forever be cherished, and his spirit will continue to inspire those he leaves behind.
