Steven's obituary

Steve Douglas Sayles, 65, of Jackson Michigan passed away on July 11, 2023 from cancer surrounded by his daughters and wife.

Steve left a lasting impression on his community, family and friends during his 65 years both as an artist and a charismatic husband, father, Papa, brother, son and friend.  Steve's passion for the arts led him to being a steel artist.  He was the genesis of Art 634, a foundation that enabled artist enrichment and networking, as well as his own design and art studio, Z Studios.  His steel artwork is displayed throughout the community, some of which include:  Jackson Symphony Orchestra, Ella Sharp Park and Museum, Jackson College and various private homes throughout the country.  He marked all of his signature artwork with a "Z."  He was also a passionate pianist and was a staple musician for local restaurants, symphonies, events and family weddings.  His favorite was playing for his family and friends in his own living room on holidays and gatherings late into the evening.  He even composed and recorded the entire book of Job from the Bible.  Most importantly, Steve was a compassionate and kind supporter to so many people in his community, which was felt during his battle with cancer when he had a line of visitors at his door daily.  Steve loved his friends and family passionately.  His presence will be sorely missed but the commitment to his legacy is great.  He will live-on in our hearts for generations to come.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Steve on July 15th at 11:00 AM EST at the Cascade's Park Manor (1970 Kibby Rd).

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.  One of Steve's own grandsons is impacted by T1 diabetes.  The family is passionate about research to remove the impact of T1D from children's lives until it is no longer a threat.

Steve is survived by his wife Amy Sayles, his daughters Annie Rogers (Brian Rogers) and Samantha Bruce (Nick Bruce), his parents Grace and Ed Sayles, his grandchildren Cooper Bruce, Brogan Bruce, Keir Rogers, Cody Rogers and Milly Rogers, his brothers Scott Sayles (Vickie Sayles), Stew Sayles (Lisa Hoops), Sam Sayles, his sister Sherri Shuffield (Patrick Shuffield), his sister-in-law Cara King his brother-in-law Chris Surbrook (Debbie Surbook), several nieces and nephews as well as many close friends.

He is preceded in death by his nephews Jay Sayles and Nick Sayles as well as several of his beloved dogs (too many to name).
