Steven's obituary
Steven Roger King passed away peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, March 4, 2026. After a long and courageous battle with young-onset Alzheimer’s disease, Steve is now free from suffering and resting in the presence of Jesus, reunited in heaven with the many loved ones who went before him.
Steve was born on May 20, 1965, to Charles and Dorothea King, both of whom preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his brother Charles King, his sister Sherry Bailey (Rodney), his son Steven Joshua King, his nephew Ryan King, and his beloved dog Pepper.
He is survived by his devoted and beloved wife, Carrie King; his son Bennett King (Sara); his daughter Alicia King; his sister Carol Spreitzer (Rick); his Aunt Cindy (Bill); and his cherished grandchildren Jacen, Oberon, and Jessalyn. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, dear friends, and members of his church community who were blessed to know him.
Steve was a man who worked with his hands and took pride in an honest day’s work. No matter the job, he brought dedication, skill, and a quiet determination to do things well. He had the brightest blue eyes — a gift he passed down to his children and grandchildren. He was a great cook, a lover of music, and someone who could always be counted on to sing along to old tunes or “Chicken Fried” by the Zac Brown Band while wearing his favorite button-down blue henley shirt.
Steve found joy in life’s simple pleasures: a cold Labatt’s beer, a bag of Gardettos, a good baseball game, a deck of cards, or a Sudoku puzzle. He loved lighthouses, the outdoors, building things, and above all spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Humor came naturally to him — especially dad jokes — and he had a way of making the people around him laugh.
He used to joke that the more people he met, the more he liked his dog. But those who knew Steve understood that nothing could be further from the truth. His life was marked by kindness, generosity, and a willingness to show up when someone needed a helping hand. He believed deeply in serving others and quietly did so throughout his life.
Even in the face of his illness, Steve continued to think of others. During his struggle with young-onset Alzheimer’s, he participated in research studies in hopes of helping future generations and contributing to the search for a cure.
Steve loved deeply and lived simply, finding richness in the everyday moments shared with the people he cared about most. His legacy lives on in his family, his faith, and the many lives he touched through his compassion and steady presence.
Though he will be deeply missed, his family finds comfort in knowing he is at peace with the Father and reunited with loved ones in heaven.
