Steven's obituary
Born in Chicago, Illinois to Robert and Carol (Sievertsen) Norden, and raised in Lakeville, Minnesota. There, he met his wife, Lori (Zaun) Norden and started raising their two daughters together.
Steve unfortunately accepted a job as an HVAC engineer/project manager in Clinton, IA where he and the family were stuck living for around 20 years. In 2016, he finally fulfilled his dream of moving to Florida where he enjoyed 3 good years before suffering his last year with ALS.
Steve had a passion for craft IPA beer, the Chicago Bears, Mopars, smokin’ hott babes and marijuana.
He loved his family, friends and pets fiercely and hated what he disliked with equal ferocity. His dislikes included but weren’t limited to: slow drivers, waiting, rice crispy treats, anything his wife and daughters liked, ALS, Iowa, anyone who crossed him and traffic.
Unbeknownst to him, he was somewhat of a local celebrity due to his daughter secretly posting his silly quotes and crazy antics on social media for years, chronicled “Sh*t Steve Norden Says”.
He was eternally grateful for the outpouring of prayer, love and donations he had received from a majority of total strangers as he fought for his life this last year.
Steve leaves behind his beloved wife Lori, daughters Stephanie and Sarah, son-in-laws Kevin Smith and Tim Schmitz, his mother Carol Norden, brothers Dave (Shelley) Norden and Rus Norden, his dogs Laid-e-byrd and Dodge, several granddogs and grandcats, and numerous friends.
He is proceeded in death by his father, Robert Norden, his nephew Ethan, his dog Grover and his grand dogter, Maeby. His father-in-law, Duane Rudolph Zaun, proceeded him in death by just weeks; we think it’s because Duane needed to put in a good word for him to be able to get into heaven.
Steve’s wishes were to be cremated, although some would argue that it was not needed as he was already such a burn out. Had he chosen burial, he would have requested that those that weren’t there for him in his time of need, be the ones to lay his casket into the ground, so they could let him down one last time.
And to those faithful friends, family, and even strangers who donated to him, prayed for him, or simply followed his struggle through the online updates; he could have never thanked you all enough. He had so much love in his heart, and when his life was coming to an end, he struggled with trying to find a way to adequately let you all know how much you meant to him. He loved his life and wanted so badly to keep living it. But since ALS took that from him; he was at least thankful for the life he lived and wanted you all to continue to live the hell out of your lives even after he was gone. He would say, “You can be sad for awhile once I’m gone, but then go on with your life. Life is too short to be sad all the time.”
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
