Steven's obituary

Steven P. Kline, 76, of Toledo, OH, departed this life on October 18, 2025.

Born February 12, 1949, Steve grew up in many places as his father’s military career took the family across the country. Eventually, Steve, his mother, and his sister settled in Lansing, Michigan, which he always called home.

It is only fitting that Steve chose to pass at the height of Michigan’s grouse season. An avid and accomplished outdoorsman, Steve was certain to be found chasing the elusive upland bird through the state’s aspen stands and cedar swamps during the autumn months. His love of bird hunting did not stop there; he also pursued waterfowl around Lake Erie, quail across the Southwest, and made many trips to Montana chasing their “Big Five” species. This was always accomplished with one of his many beloved dogs, of which he always had a faithful supply.

When the weather warmed, Steve turned his attention to his other passion: golf. He was a long-time member of the Inverness Club, where he devoted his time to the club’s Greens Committee, served as Club Historian, and played an active role in documenting the club’s many PGA and USGA tournaments.

Generous in sharing his passions, Steve often recruited friends and family to join him on these many pursuits. His son, Russell, was his most frequent companion, and Steve did his level best to impart to him the things he loved most.

Steve could almost always be counted on for a good time and will be remembered by those who knew him with the phrase, “Do you remember the time…?” He lived his life as big as he could and shared it with all who wished to be a part of it.

Steve is preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his son, Russell (Quin); former wives, Joey and Kira; sister, Sharon; and two grandchildren, Ryker and Mae.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, November 5th, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Inverness Club, with remarks beginning around 12:30 p.m.

Interment will be for family only.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating the The First Tee - Lake Erie or the Ruffed Grouse Society/American Woodcock Society.
