On a hot sunny day in Arizona, Steven and I rented a car for that work week.
At the National rent a car, the choices came down to two cars: a sleek, black Audi and a crisp, white Kia minivan (mind you, the price was the same)
Contrary to what I wanted Steven, always the humble one, said the Kia would be more appropriate. And so we did rent the Minivan. However, there was a slight hitch in his plan. The Kia, despite being a top choice for its comfort and efficiency, had one minor setback - the air conditioning was not working properly.
Now, anyone who has ever experienced an Arizona afternoon knows that a car without AC can feel like a sauna. And I, being the witty one, couldn't resist poking fun at Steven's choice. "Sure, Steven," you chuckled, “who needs AC in Arizona?”
Steven, not bothered by the jest, just shrugged with a grin. "Well, I've always wanted to try a hot yoga class. This is just pushing me one step closer," he retorted, causing both of you to burst into laughter.
The week was as humorous as one could expect. Steven was at the wheel, driving through the sizzling heat of Arizona, wiping his brow every now and then. I, on the other hand, was enjoying teasing Steven about his "hot yoga class” and choice of car 😊
Despite the heat, the week was memorable. Steven facilitated an amazing class as he always did. The laughter, banter, and the unforgettable experience of driving a Kia without AC in scorching Arizona heat made it a week to remember. It was a tale that was recounted many times, each retelling evoking laughter and good-natured ribbing.
The story of the Kia without an AC has since become a joke between us, bringing a smile to Steven’s face every time it was told. Steven occasionally enjoyed a drink at the bar, for which I joined every time I could. He and I had the most candid moments in those evenings, and I got to know what a great man he was, and the great family he raised…and of course, evert time I could, I teased him about what became known between us as “the Kia story”
Rest my Friend!
