Steven H. “Steve” Gouka, of Red Wing, a retired metallurgist and husband to Cyndi, passed away after a brief battle with cancer on August 20, 2018 at the age of 66.
Born in Des Moines, Iowa on December 25, 1951, Steve was the only child of Henry Gouka, Jr and Marion Lorraine(Graham). Steve married his highschool sweetheart and love of his life, Cynthia Ann Severson on June 18, 1971. He graduated from Iowa State University with a degree as a metallurgical engineer. The family moved to Red Wing in 1981. Steve worked for 45 years as a metallurgist for several companies and retired from Columbia Gear in December 2017. He loved what he did and enjoyed problem solving and teaching about metals and alloys. Steve and Cyndi also enjoyed taking their convertible on road trips to visit state parks and wineries. Steve’s proudest accomplishment was being the father to two daughters Melissa(Michael) Dopkins and Jennifer(Gary) Cornell and grandfather to six grandchildren, Riley, Nathan, Rachel, Jackson, Isobel, and Grace. Steve leaves behind his loving wife and family, friends and colleagues that will miss his sense of humor, his caring heart and his unique view of the world.
And private, family service will be held.
