Steve was a hero of mine of sorts when he sang with the Gamble Folk. I admired his music immensely. Years later I had the pleasure of meeting him in person. I realized that Steve the musician was just the tip of an amazing iceberg. I met Steve during one of the most difficult times of my life. I learned so much from this man of God about life with Jesus, grace, not giving up and insights in ministry. What I learned from his words of wisdom and watching him live have made a life-long impact on my life and are the basis of my ministry.
Steve was a great artist too. He painted this picture on velvet for Marianne (Goodoien) Harder and her siblings Joan (Goodoien) Brady and Jerald Goodoien. They gave it to their parents Wallace and Norma Goodoien for their 30th wedding anniversary on January 11, 1971. It is still beautiful after 50+ years.
Just thanking how thankful I am that Steve took the time to teach me to finger pick while I was a student at Bethany. It has been a blessing to have this skill and enjoy playing for the last 55 years. I have used in churches in New Zealand and Uganda... But mostly just enjoyed the sound of a singing guitar.
